The folks at the local TV station made a lovely retrospective video that they played at the public ceremony Saturday. I don't have the link handy, but it's at the KCBD website (www.kcbd.com) and on Joanna's website in the "updates" section, at least for a while. Her mom had a copy made for us, which we promptly left at their house. It's a huge file - am trying to find a way to compress it or to find a host site for it once we have it again, but the station will have it online for around 30 days.

It was a very nice, moving ceremony on Saturday. They interred Joanna today in the masoleum. Local law enforcement officials and the husband of the UR Search and Rescue representative were pallbearers. The weather was lovely there today, I think. We had to start back yesterday, so we could not stay for today's services.

At least now they know where she is, and she's finally home. There will be no more updates on her search page. It will be up to the family if they want another link to a page dealing with the trial.

Thank you all for letting us know about the ceremony.

I'm glad Joanna can rest in peace now.

Prayers for her and the family now, and friends.

I should have said "the hypothetical trial."

There will be justice served in Summer Baldwin's case.

What about Joanna? And when are they going to go get Jennifer out of there? Neither of them worth the trouble?

Nan: Thanks for sharing with us the ceremony of the celebration of Joanna's life, it is a blessing and a miracle, that Joanna has been laid to rest, the only comfort is knowing that RR who hurt Joanna won't have an opportunity to harm anyone else, regardless of what happens to his sorry life from here on in, his retched life as a free man is over...

Yes, Nan, the authorities should be looking for Jennifer in whatever area corresponds with the time of her disappearance, since there seem to be similarities between her and Jo's disappearances. In Jo's case they had the computer evidence of a connection between RR and Jo, plus RR's testimony. They don't have that in Jennifer's case; however, doing the search would seem to be the right thing to do, unless they have evidence that RR was definitely elsewhere at the time of her disappearance.

Lubbock is not that big of a place. (Not saying it's tiny, but it's just not a huge metropolis - it's not improbable for him to meet the same people on a daily basis just being "around" if he wanted to have done.) He worked around town - at a hotel not far from Joanna's house at one point, and at the South Plains Mall (among others), which is "the" shopping place in town. Not having a computer connection certainly doesn't disqualify him from contact with his victims. He most likely didn't communicate with Summer Baldwin that way.

Someone local should check: Who else out there who's about 5'4" and reddish hair, relatively slender, is missing since 1998-ish? What about San Antonio, where daddy lives? What about in Wichita Falls, where he went to high school?

And where is his high school girlfriend, who moved to Lubbock while he was at Tech and then left and moved to San Antonio? RR doesn't seem to take rejection well. Likes to strangle and/or strangle and beat girls who reject his advances. God help her, where ever she is.

This guy is a serial predator turned killer. He's smooth like Ted Bundy (though probably not as bright). He should meet Ted Bundy's end, only sooner. But not before they get out of him the names of all the young women he's killed, for their families to know. It's highly probable that the list is longer than Summer and Joanna.

His second lawyer has bailed for "ethical reasons" (i.e., most likely being asked to defend him based on a lie). The court appointed a new one.

No trial date set yet. Maybe we'll all get lucky and someone in jail will take him out and spare the taxpayers the expense of a trial.

There's probably no better indication of a criminal liar than when even a defense lawyer can't stomach it and bails on you.

Hans Reiser's lawyer just bailed on him and so did Condit's lawyer. Condit isn't being charged with murder, but his lawyer is bailing over the lies nonetheless.

The guy is still rotting in jail. Last I heard his trial won't fly until maybe the fall. But that's just rumor.

Looks like Lubbock has its hands full with other murders and missing women, now.

Joanna disappeared three years ago next month. At least her family knows where she is. Jennifer Wilkerson's family, and the family of the other missing women, do not.

True, Nan - at least Joanna's family knows that she is at peace now. I wish the outcome had been different, but I hope that the other crimes will be resolved, too, for the families and friends of the still missing. I hope also that Lubbock will manage to rid itself of the killers that seem to be concentrated there.

They're looking at at least one more serial killer. And while I think Jennifer is in the landfill where Joanna was found, there doesn't seem to be much interest in publically suggesting that link.

Even if RR said she was another of his victim's and in the landfill, he probably wouldn't be believed at this point. But they probably need to catch the other serial murderer before there's a good chance that the predator who killed her is behind bars for good.

A dangerous life Here are some of the women who were killed and their bodies dumped in Lubbock since 1999.

• Selena Kuykendall, 40. Found dead Tuesday near the intersection of East Municipal Drive and North Olive Avenue. Police are still investigating the case.

• Linda Trevino Carbajal, 21. Found dead in April 2004 in a rural part of Lubbock County. The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the case.

• Cynthia Palacio, a 21-year-old mother of a 2-year-old girl, found beaten and strangled in a rural Lubbock County field in July 2003. The sheriff's office is still investigating the case.

• Amanda Sue Gschwend was found by farmers in 1999 in a cotton field near Olive Avenue and East Municipal Drive - the same area Kuykendall's body was found. Gschwend's death was determined to be a homicide, but authorities have not convicted anyone for the killing. Court records indicate all four women had been arrested on prostitution charges.

Defense is claiming procedural issues were not followed on the debit card...

aw, nononononononononono!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And they say they can't charge him on Joanna because of the terms of the confession. And Jennifer is still out there under all that trash.

If that boy walks, ...damn. Just damn. I hope that fricking lawyer can sleep at night.

yeah, but they have him on surveillance at Wal-Mart that night, Nan, and suitcase identified as Wal-Mart's merchandise. Just think of days before credit cards, or if he had payed cash. My goodness, we can't be that screwed up in this country yet, can we?

Next, the defense will be there's no video of him murdering anyone.

Nan, that assumption is likely the reason that the Sheriff's Dept. has quit investigating Jennifer's case, coupled with a massive amount of incompetence and political game-playing. One would think that after about a year and a half of investigating RR, if there were any ties between RR and Jen, they would have been found, as well as any other missing women cases who fit his m.o. in areas he was known to have been.

This is assuming, of course, that the investigation is still being carried out by the Texas Rangers and/or FBI who got involved while looking for Joanna.
