I think there's a marine corps base in San Antonio? _________________ "There is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known."

No, that's the Air Force Basic Training there, jane, at Lackland. I went to basic training there when I got drafted for Nam and enlisted in the Air Force.
It's his parents that are there, I believe is the reason he was there when arrested.
What a long wait for Joanna's parents to be able to lay her to rest. And I agree, they would probably be able to find Jennifer in whatever part of the landfill was being used ten months later.

There used to be 4 or 5 bases in San Antonio. I can't remember which ones were closed down and which are still open, as it has been almost 3 yrs since we moved from there. I know that my nephew was stationed there when he went for Army basic a few years back.
I don't know how far they would have moved when dumping the trash 10 weeks after Jo when Jen came up missing. It has been such a long hard 2 yrs for everyone involved. Maybe peace will come now for some. |

He was in San Antonio because of his parents, and as I say, more or less fled there, probably because the police were keeping a close eye on him while they were linking him and the suitcase and he knew it.
There's no reason to believe he didn't do the same thing with Jennifer he did with Joanna and Summer.

They would like to hold a Celebration of Joanna's life on Saturday., November 11th, but are having to do some looking for a place that would be large enough. They want anyone who wants to come join them to be able to be there.
As soon as the info is available, I'll post it on the website and I'm sure they'll also let the media know. If you are in or near Lubbock, I'm sure the Rogers would welcome you to join them in remembrance of Joanna.
Sixteen is such a young age. I was looking at the kids today, at the grocery store, who were picking out their Halloween costumes. I wonder what Joanna would have done for her sixteenth Halloween - gone to a party, no doubt. And dressed as...? _________________ Please remember Joanna, and all those who've gone missing. Nan, after reading all this and following Joanna's case for so long, I'm overwhelmed with grief. I just had to vent. I'm heartbroken and crying so much. I had to write that and let it out. It is so sad, she was so young and this tragedy is just getting to me.
I'm so sorry for her family, and her friends.
Bless Joanna. May she now rest in peace.
I just can't write much more as this is really affecting me. I am also so outraged at this animal and what he has done and hope he gets what he deserves.
Kindly,
Goz |

It is distressing, goz. We can only imagine what the family and friends have gone through. They can take some solace that the murderer is off the streets, but it can only go so far. It doesn't bring Joanna or any of the other loved ones back.
They can only take solace that no one else's daughter or sister or friend will disappear at the hands of this murderer. If only he were the last murderer to take a loved one's life away. That would be solace indeed.

Thank you for the reply RD. I was just real touched and it had really affected me the way they found Joanna. I appreciate you responding once again. Even after one does this so long, it gets touches one right to the core and in the heart everytime.
I know it must be horrible on the families and friends. You are correct, at least he is off the street.
Have a good week

| It is so very sad, Goz - just inexpressibly sad. Yes, a good thing the perpetrator is behind bars. |

Nan, my profound compassion is extended to you and your daughter, and I fear to tread to think about how profoundly so many lives have been changed and altered by the disappearance of Joanna, and the grim reality suspected so long, that Joanna was murdered by RR, and Thrown Away and robbed of the gift of life that she'd scarcely begun to live. Your daughter will be ever change by this henious crime. This is profoundly terrible and sad.
My sympathies to Joanna's parents, and I pray that they have the courage to get though Joanna's celebration of life, her burial, without the worry of RR and his fate. We will hope as they must, that Justice will be served.
Finding Joanna speaks volumes of the Faith that made this possible, the many dedicated volunteers, the tireless effort of a great team of detectives, law enforcement, the District Attorney's office and the Governor, everyone is to be commended on the team work and funding that made this possible, and were it not for volunteers the effort that it took to bring Joanna home would not have been possible. If everyone had been paid for their time and efforts to bring Joanna Home, she'd never have been found.
My sympathies to Summer's parents. I too send my regards to Jen's family who must be in constant worry as to what become of their daughter, Jen's disappearance still remains a mystery?! Jen Wilkensen, missing July 2004 Lubbock, TX.
To the other families of women who have been murdered or are missing
we too hope for justice! _________________ A vision sent me on the path of seeking justice for Chandra, nothing I've seen in print to date has diminished the vividness but only served to reaffirm the validity of this vision. |

The local NBC TV affiliate did a lovely editorial about Joanna. I just put it up on her web page (bringjohome.info in the "updates" section).
The public service is this Saturday at 4pm at her high school (Lubbock High) and the family will receive visitors immediately thereafter at the Shephard Church on 18th street (about a block away).
Joanna will be buried, above ground this time, in a private ceremony a few days later. The family have invited local law enforcement, etc., to attend.
Due to the terms of RR's confession, it cannot be used to prosecute him for Joanna's death. They'll have to nail him for Summer's, and I know they'll do their damned best to do so. _________________ Please remember Joanna, and all those who've gone missing. BringJoHome.info |

Since RR bowed out of his agreement in the Summer Baldwin case I have been told by someone in the court system that it is posible that the DA has the option of doing the same with the agreement on the Joanna case. It is up to them and how he feels the trial will go on the Summer case. RR should have thought things through a bit more... he thought that he was going to avoid punishment by saying he didn't understand and in all actuality all he did was make things worse. As I have said before the DA is a wonderful, caring man outside his courtroom...but once you are on the wrong side of him you will pay dearly.
God Bless Jo and her family. The memorial was nice, full of love for a girl who has been taken away far too soon. |

Thanks for the updates, Nan and Bods. I'm glad that Joanna's family and friends were able to have that beautiful ceremony. When I was young, I used to think that ceremonies were useless, but I have come to realize that we humans need them as opportunities to publically show our recognition of the importance of people (birthdays, funerals), relationships (marriage, anniversaries) and major events.
I certainly hope that RR will be made to pay for his horrific deeds. It's good to know that a no-nonsense DA is involved.
I have been thinking about garbage disposal. I guess I used to have a vague idea that garbage at some point is sorted to some extent - I guess I was naive.
There was a time, I think, in Ontario, when dumps (as we used to call them) were privately run (I believe this is correct - I'm not 100% sure). There was a man at the dump where my father used to take an occasional trailer-load of accumulated junk. I had the impression that the guy lived next to the dump in a trailer. He was always there in the non-winter months, sitting in a lawnchair and would tell people where to empty their load. I think he would sift through things to find items he could sell - I'm pretty sure a body or parts thereof wouldn't have got past him. Anyway, there are lots of reasons why it would be a good idea to do some sorting of garbage (so that hazardous chemicals could be dealt with properly, etc.) It would also mean that people such as RR and that orderly who killed his wife would have to go to more trouble to dispose of the remains of their victims. But it would add to the taxpayers' burden. _________________ "There is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known."

Some are sorted, jane. We ran across that in Chandra's case as to where Condit's dumpster would be unloaded. Turned out it was taken to a routing center where contents were sorted through to some degree and then could be taken any number of places.
Whatever sorting is done, it should pay for itself in removing recyclable material which is sold for some amount which partially offsets costs, and removes non-biodegradable material from being unloaded which saves on land costs.
All in all, something we all need to do, including making it much harder for degenerates to dispose of disappeared women in the trash.

Glad to hear the ceremony for Joanna was nice, bodsangel, and that it got some worthy coverage. What a long, loathsome journey this has been to find truth and justice for Joanna.
