A very nice double clasp bracelet worthy of passing off to your family as a gift from your significant unidentified other.

I don't remember the 6th being mentioned as a time police went to the apt - until the WTOP article we were discussing.

I know a lot of details, but from chapter Frantic:

Dr. Levy called the police again on Sunday and "begged and begged". [7] He finally convinced them to go check on her apartment by telling them she suffered from bad allergies and there could be a medical emergency. And he was a doctor. Pity the poor parent of a Washington intern who hasn't heard from them and hasn't watched enough ER to convince the police to check on their loved one. Even landlords calling doesn't help. Research was unable to determine how many neighbors must complain of a stench before the D.C. police will check on an apartment.

And when the Washington police do go check on her apartment Sunday night? Lisa DePaulo tells Larry King what happened in this every parent's nightmare:

DEPAULO: Dr. Levy was so upset by Sunday night, that
he called and begged and begged. Please go. And
finally the cops go, and guess what they do?
According to Dr. Levy, they call him back and say
OK, we got in the apartment, she's not there. What
they didn't mention was what was there. Her purse,
her wallet, her half-packed suitcases, her jewelry.
I mean, just were not there.

And so the Levys did not actually understand or find
out the circumstances of their daughter's not being
in the apartment for several more days. [8]

Bob Levy sums it up. "I guess they thought it was enough that they didn't see a body on the floor". [9] What would it take to get the D.C. police interested in where Chandra was? Unfortunately, that question would persist for quite some time.

I know, rd. I did look up Murder on a Horse Trail right after that post & replied to my own post some of what you posted - they looked and saw Chandra wasn't there, but failed to mention her wallet etc. was there, which should have been cause for concern.

Like Rainbow, I had read from various sources other than the National Enquirer that both apartments- Condit's and Chandra's had been sanitized.

As well, I found Rainbow's post on the subject:

http://www.justiceforchandra.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4224

Excerpt:

As far as other suspect(s) were concerned, not enough evidence of the kind which would hold up in court had been obtained, in order to secure a prosecution. Investigators also felt that there may have been some "professional" type of assistance in Chandra's abduction and murder (Police used the terminology that her apartment had been "sanitized"), which may have contributed to this "lack of evidence" dilemma, too. And, may be there was some overlap between where evidence of Chandra's murder was collected and people and places covered by the national security act and/or diplomatic immunity.

Right, the source is the National Enquirer, with no details, is that correct? I understand that Rainbow and possibly NE says that no fingerprints found on Chandra's laptop.

I'll be honest with you. First of all I don't believe the laptop was checked for fingerprints. Secondly I don't believe that the DC cop / detective who examined it / turned it on / found it obliterated next day did so in a way not to obscure existing fingerprints and possibly add his own.

I also know that there is some comments being passed on from former investigators that I guess we should take at face value or for what's it worth, and that includes the claim the apartment was sanitized.

Not good enough for me, they can also anonymously pass on why they thought / think that. And this sanitized claim has been around since the beginning.

I see no basis for sanitized, nor even know what it means. We have had this discussion before, and for the life of me we were reduced to claims that Chandra should have had a chocolate box in her apartment, therefore it was sanitized.

If there's something else I'm missing that makes it sanitized, I'm all ears.

We have an initial very cursory look in the apartment on Sunday night May 6. Then Condit / Dayton called DC police and FBI on Monday May 7 when Condit returned to DC after talking to Susan Levy on Saturday.

Then DC police visited Condit on May 9, apparently from his office's call on Monday concerning the missing constituent Chandra and information from the Levys linking him to Chandra.

The visits to Chandra's apartment aren't as clear. From chapter Stonewalling:

The D.C. police, apparently deciding a week was long enough to see if a body showed up, made a return visit to Chandra's apartment on Monday May 14 for "any possible forensic evidence". [1] They retrieved Chandra's diary, laptop computer, cell phone records and the Newport security videotapes.

Lack of Information Leaves Family Frustrated
Missing Woman's Parents Travel From California to Press D.C. Police About Investigation
By Arthur Santana
Washington Post Staff Writer
May 16, 2001

The parents of a missing woman who recently completed an internship in Washington flew from California yesterday [May 15] to learn more about her disappearance, a trip borne of frustrationwith the information they have received from D.C. police, a family spokeswoman said.

"They are fuming at the lack of cooperation, and they want some answers," Jennifer Baker said of Chandra Ann Levy's parents, Susan and Robert Levy. "They have no idea what's going on with the investigation."

...

When police searched Levy's apartment May 10 in the 1200 block of 21st Street NW, where she lived alone, they found no signs of a struggle, they said. However, personal items such as credit cards, her driver's license and packed luggage were found.

Gentile said yesterday that police searched Levy's apartment again Monday night[May 14] for "any possible forensic evidence." He and Gainer declined to say what, if anything, was found. Police officials could not say how many times police had searched Levy's apartment.

A cursory check May 6, seemingly reported as May 10 here, then forensic evidence gathered May 14. How could reporting at the time be so different from testimony given at the Gaundique trial?

From above 2001 reports we have:

Police checked Sunday May 6 at request of Dr. Levy citing possible medical emergency and told him Chandra wasn't there. (Confusingly given and interpreted as Chandra had moved out as the Levys expected.)

Washington Times August 23 reports:
Investigators first questioned Mr. Condit on May 9, four days after Miss Levy's mother, Susan, called from the family home in Modesto, Calif., to report her daughter missing. In the months since, Chief Ramsey has blamed Mr. Condit for the slow start of the investigation because he held out on the nature of his relationship with the young woman from his congressional district.

One person familiar with that first interview said Mr. Condit answered most questions about Miss Levy, "but he found a way to avoid answering one question" -- whether the two had been intimate.

Police had that basic information from Miss Levy's parents before investigators questioned the congressman, a source close to the family told The Times. But Chief Ramsey has insisted that details from Mr. Condit were pertinent.

In her May 5 call reporting her daughter missing to D.C. police, Mrs. Levy disclosed the family knew of the affair with Mr. Condit, a family source said. Mrs. Levy and her husband, Dr. Robert Levy, confronted Mr. Condit by telephone that night and again the next day, when he denied an affair.

"The Levys were somewhat brushed off by the police. They didn't get very far at first," said a source with access to police and FBI investigators.

Washington Post reports that a check of her apartment was made Thursday May 10 checking contents but gathering no evidence. This is possible a second check made by detectives was made four days later after possibly just poking their heads in the door on Sunday, probably a patrolman.

But curious and hard to believe they went to Condit the day before to question him about Chandra without checking her apartment first. In fact, I don't believe it.

Washington Post then reports they went to Chandra's apartment on Monday May 14 to gather forensic evidence, this in direct response to the Levys raising hell in the press and flying in to DC the next day.

Today Show Thursday May 17, Katie Couric says to Susan Levy:
COURIC: Did they give you any hard evidence or any information that you didn't know before you met with them? I know that they did search your daughter's apartment on May 14th. Did they find anything that gave them any clue?

CNN Friday May 18:
Police have searched Chandra's apartment and removed her cell phone and laptop computer. Those items were sent to the FBI lab so that records of calls and e-mails can be retrieved.

All reporting is indicating that forensics came May 14 and gathered evidence including the laptop.

People June 25:
When police, responding to Bob Levy's call, entered her apartment on May 7, they found her neatly packed luggage, her cell phone, her laptop computer and her wallet.

This could be misreporting. It appears to be some hybrid of DC police checking her apartment in response to Bob Levy's medical emergency pleas Sunday May 6, Condit / Dayton calling DC police and FBI Monday May 7 at Levys request from Saturday May 6, and DC detectives possibly looking a bit closer on Thursday May 10.

It's unclear though. All reporting has the DC police finding the above. This is Durant and company saying the luggage was neatly packed. I seriously doubt this occurred May 6 in response to a phone call. I imagine that was a patrolman asked to make the check, not a DC detective, and detectives didn't get involved until calls from, depending on the source, Condit, Dayton, or FBI. DC police say FBI called them.

Still the People report above seems to be notariously confused or more likely deliberately rammed togther for convenience.

From 2010 Guandique trial testimony -

Washington Examiner October 28:
On Tuesday, Det. Ronald Wyatt testified that the laptop computer was still on when he came across it. But after getting a search warrant and returning the next day, the computer wouldn’t work. “The operating system was obliterated,” he said.

Washington Post October 26:
Earlier in his testimony, Wyatt recounted his first visit to Levy's apartment and provided his account of some of the early miscues in the case.

Wyatt said it was he who powered down Levy's laptop computer, after briefly checking her Internet history, only to have the machine come up dead the next day when investigators returned with a search warrant and wanted to examine the machine more closely.

"The operating system was obliterated. . . ," he said. The laptop powered up, but nothing was there.

International Business Times October 27:
Wyatt also recalled that soon after Levy was reported missing, he went to her apartment but found no evidence of foul play.

Wyatt said he saw her laptop computer switched on and browsed it to see what sites she had recently visited. Then he turned it off to get a search warrant.

But when he returned the next day, the laptop powered up, but nothing was there. "The operating system was obliterated," Wyatt said.

Later, when the investigating team requested the apartment surveillance video tape, they were told that the footage had already been recycled, Wyatt said.

Washington Post October 27:
Detective Sgt. Ronald Wyatt said he visited Levy's apartment May 9 and looked around. There was no sign of a struggle or burglary. Wyatt testified that he and the other detectives working the case were getting heat from the brass because of the intense "media attention" at the time.

When Wyatt arrived at her apartment he noticed Levy's packed suitcases on the floor and her laptop powered on. Wyatt said he went to the laptop and surfed through the history of Web sites that Levy had visited, as well as a couple of documents.

Investigators later said that after Wyatt handled the computer, experts were unable to determine that Levy had used it to research Rock Creek Park. If they had known, investigators said, they might have searched the park for her sooner.

From this report, the two days of initial visit and returning with search warrant are May 9 and May 10.

and concerning that return visit on May 10, which was reported at the time while the May 9 initial visit unreported, possibly because they didn't have a search warrant yet, so didn't tell reporters about it? That's a little odd.

Washington Examiner October 27:
Defense attorneys presented in court Wednesday morning photos and personal items recovered from the apartment of slain intern Chandra Levy. Among them: the business card of former Rep. Gary Condit, D-Calif., with whom she was having an affair.

Defense attorney Santha Sonenberg questioned D.C. police Officer Charles Egan about the items, which were found on May 10, 2001, after Levy’s disappearance while jogging in Rock Creek Park earlier that month.

In addition to Condit’s business card, items Egan was asked about included a handwritten note mentioning cerebral hemorrhage and cardiac death that was found on Levy’s kitchen countertop.

Sonenberg then asked about a black bag found in Rock Creek Park on July 25,2001, a day Egan was collecting evidence in the park. He said he could not recall whether the bag was placed in the Levy evidence, but later said when questioned by Assistant U.S. attorney Amanda Haines that he was not instructed to submit the bag for fingerprinting or lab work.

International Business Times October 29:
On Wednesday, D.C police officer Charles Egan, a specialist in evidence collection, also testified that after Levy went missing, the police searched Levy's apartment and recovered photos and personal items belonging to her. One such item was a business card of former Rep. Gary Condit (D-Calif.), with whom Levy was having an affair.

Egan also recalled finding a handwritten note mentioning cerebral hemorrhage and cardiac death that was found on Levy’s kitchen countertop.

WTOP November 15:
The defense will present a document from Levy's Dupont Circle apartment that could show Levy was alive and in her apartment as of May 1, 2001.

Prosecutors have told the judge they believe the document was slipped under Levy's door by the landlord, and police mistakenly moved it to two different locations throughout the course of the investigation.

The document was photographed on a desk in Levy's apartment, but was then found somewhere else, according to the police report.

WTOP November 16:
Sonenberg described a scenario that someone else was in Chandra Levy's apartment after May 1, 2001 - the day she went missing.

Levy's laptop was not plugged in, but still had power on May 9 when police arrived to search her apartment again. (Police first arrived to search the apartment on May 6.)

"Someone else turned on that computer after Levy disappeared," Sonenberg said.

Notices from Levy's landlord that were dated May 1, 2001 and May 2, 2001 were slipped under her door, but when police arrived again to search the apartment, the notices were on Levy's desk.

"Where were those documents found? Sometime after May 1, someone went into her apartment," Sonenberg said.

end quotes

Something went on in that apartment May 9 when Condit was questioned about a relationship with Chandra by police, much to his shock.

Sanitized? I would say more sabatoged.

. . . All that I can say regarding "sanitized" is what the Levy investigator, Dwayne Stanton, and/or D.C. homicide detective, Larry Kennedy, told a potential witness over the phone. By the way, Detective Kennedy was one of the main detectives on the case. I believe this info. was also in one of the original newspaper reports, in the D.C. area.
As far as the NE article goes, the potential witness spoke w/Mr. Robinson on the phone, as well, and he said that the NE article was a disguised version of his book manuscript, s.g., names and places were changed to protect the innocent and guilty. He also said that there was the DNA of even more men's semen inside another apartment (other than Chandra's), than was reported in the NE.
in my opinion, Chandra's apartment was sanitized and sabotaged. I also think that the perpetrator(s?) thought he/she/they had a window of time until Chandra's graduation date to carry out operation(s),

well, unfortunately, that doesn't indicate what they thought was sanitized, or in other words what was not there that he thought should have been and therefore sanitized out of existence.

The only things I've heard were no fingerprints found on laptop, and you heard the DC detective testify, he compromised the laptop looking at it, someone thinks that dufus dusted it? I don't think so.

The multiple semem things goes way back too. Lord, we had one poster that was bound and intent that in addition to Condit having multiple mistresses, that he also had multiple boyfriends.

Or there were the multiple friends pulling a train with Chandra as the conductor, so to speak. No one even thinks of the logistics involved in these scenarios in Condit's little condo building.

Both these stem fom specific reported statements, which is why it doesn't surprise me. It doesn't come out of the blue.

The first is a statement that multiple semen stains were found in Condit's apartment when they did their search with their biologic detecting lights, etc., with Condit, Carolyn, and his lawyer du jour present.

They were looking for blood but would detect semen and other body fluids as well is my understanding. At least I don't think they have to conduct a special separate test for semen.

And the statement, which I think was carried in a right wing paper, god bless their souls for not being constrained as MSM press are, stated IIRC that multiple semen stains were found.

It did not say semen from multiple men. And it didn't say semen from one man.

Guess what? Samples would have to be taken, and these are microscopic samples left over from cleaning, etc. and DNA tests run to determine origin of the different samples.

Does anyone seriously think that the DC police gathered multiple microscopic samples of semen from Condit's apartment and ran DNA tests on them?

That would be like, say, an investigation. The DC police were as far from investigating Condit as they could be. They only conducted this search as a PR exercise as it is to clear Condit and get the press off their backs.

See. We didn't find any blood in Condit's apartment. Now go away.

That's the reality.

In addition to the homosexual thing that the one poster had on Condit, bless their soul, at least they were trying to pin something on him, we have the multiple men raping a woman fantasy of Condit's which is bizarre to say the least, but something he passed on to Anne Marie in some kind of inspirational moment, and this being around the time Chandra disappeared to boot.

So lots of frenzy about Chandra gang raped by a political cabal and disappeared because she could identify the privates of several high ranking politicans and Middle East embassy ambassadors, etc.

Given his stated fantasy, it's hard to tell what he's capable of, but not an assemblage of power brokers in his condo pulling a train into his bedroom.

There, I think I'm right up there with WorldNetDaily on covering this. :)

The FBI investigated these apartments, as well, Rd. The sanitized expression was used as I have mentioned in my last post. Regarding the DNA from various men, all I know is that this was told to a potential witness over the telephone, by Mr. Robinson.

There is also the possibility of "lending" his apartment and girlfriend to multiple men, and in fact Condit initially tried to portray Chandra as a sleep around slut when it became known that she was his mistress, so I wouldn't put anything past him in terms of what he would put out there, but we know Chandra well enough that we know she thought she was his future wife, and not his rent a mistress.

There is also I guess the possibility of lending his apartment to multiple men at different times for them to bring their consorts, I'm not sure why a hotel wouldn't be better.

Plus I don't think anyone was conjecturing such a benign scenario.

It is very difficult to talk and/or think about this. The potential witness was rather shocked when Mr. Robinson mentioned these things. He also told this witness that he was told by a former Attorney General to "drop the case". Mr. Robinson gave the potential witness the impression that he took this warning seriously and, therefore, he had started working in investment banking again. He had just returned from a business trip, when the potential witness spoke with him on the phone that time.
