It was probably Chandra's hair - whose was not specified. Maybe they could have provided more hair from her comb, but I don't know how much was collected at the recovery site. But anyway, the shocking thing is that evidence was lost in transit (or whenever) - just that it was lost, period.

If it belonged to Chandra, I wonder why the defense wasn't provided with another strand of hair, then.

There are too many coincidences in this case, so it's difficult to believe the strand of hair was accidentally lost.

If it was Chandra's hair, then it possibly went missing, because the defense would have been able to conclude from testing the hair sample that Chandra may have been drugged.

This would automatically have eliminated Guandique as a suspect.

And, if this is indeed what happened, then. . .

sigsky, I just ran across this in Murder on a Horse Trail:

Anne Marie filed this affadavit:
On or about May 9, 2001, Mr. Condit called me and
said, "I may be in trouble. I may have to disappear
for a while.
Don't call me for a few days, I'll call
you. Or, if you do call me, don't identify yourself
and leave a very short message. Don't tell anyone
about this phone call and don't talk to anybody
about me if you hear my name. Everything is OK with
you and me."

Mr. Condit called only sporadically after that.

end quote

You were thinking that she didn't reference this correctly in her affdavit, but the complete information about phone calls is there.

Chapter 13. Investigation

hope that helps, sigsky

They recovered a large clump of hair with the remains. Yes, they would have large amounts of single strands of hair to be able to provide a sample for discovery. And they didn't.

For that matter, I never saw that they ever rectified the problem and provided the sample. They probably thought they were being cute by withholding evidence too late to do testing. Probably giggled about it.

Same as they withheld all evidence and all testimony and all information. They're a dishonest bunch of crooks on the public payroll. They ought to get their incompetent butts fired and handed to them.

I don't think they expected much of a defense for Guandique, do you, rd and Rainbow et al?

I think you're absolutely right, and if it wasn't for us keeping the facts of what actually happened out there after all these years it would have been difficult to know that the Washington Post and DC prosecutors attempted to rewrite history to frame Guandique.

They got way more than they bargained for.

They could only have felt that way, if they remained delusional. Or, they didn't do their homework.

That is very interesting, Rainbow. Condit has an MO, and that was part of it.

Here's a mention of something about a "pay phone far away".
Another excerpt from the above-mentioned Susie Borges Rossi story in the same National Enquirer article:

Quote:
Gary told me this woman I was supposed to call, who was a member of his
staff at the time, would know exactly which documents in his office to
destroy and how to get rid of his body.

"He gave me a set of instructions to follow. First, he said: "Don't phone
anyone from the hotel room. Take some money out of my wallet, leave me
where I lay, call a cab, and go to a pay phone far away." 'Then call the woman at that private phone number. She will know how to
handle the press and what to do with my body before the police or press
find out about me'

"His exact words to me were: 'This is a pirviate line for emergencies only.
Don't call the police, the paramedics, 911, no one. Just call this woman.
She's the one to call before anyone knows I'm dead. She'll take care of
phoning people and take care of my body. You don't do anything. Just get
away. Fast.'

He clearly was in Luray making a call from a payphone two weeks after Chandra disappeared related to his MO, in my opinion.

Interesting how his past directions to a mistress on disposing of a dead body came to pass when Chandra disappeared.

"Breath Play", strangulation and/or chokeholds can lead to cardiac arrest and cerbral hemorrhaging.

Cardiac Arrest
Quote:
Multiple sources in the medical literature, especially the forensic pathology literature, have cited instances of only a very few seconds of strangulation or suffocation causing sudden cardiac arrest.

Cerebral Hemorrhage

Quote:
There is also a sizable laundry list of documented secondary chokehold complications, including but not limited to fracture of the larynx, paralysis of one or both of the vocal cords due to contusion of one or both recurrent laryngeal nerves, sudden blindness, hoarseness of speech, cerebral hemorrhage, fracture of the hyoid bone in the neck, fracture/dislocation of the cervical vertebrae and/or damage to the spinal cord, dislodging of an atherosclerotic plaque in the carotid arteries which then travels up to the brain and causes a stroke, and deaths occurring up to three full days following the application of the chokehold due to either the forming and dislodging of a clot or to post-chokehold swelling of the tissues, but in this writing I shall mention those "trivial" secondary matters only briefly and occasionally.
