From my readings, I gather the mayor lost her husband and father is a short period of time. She was upset her daughter was going away to school. I guess she just lost it and flipped. This is a very tragic story and she should have taken her own life and let her daughter live. It was an organized killing of herself and daughter as she left four notes which included instructions.

Police in a Dallas, Texas, suburb indicated Wednesday that the town's mayor likely killed her daughter before turning the weapon on herself.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Officer ruled Wednesday that the mayor's death was a suicide and her daughter's a homicide.
Coppell Mayor Jayne Peters, 55, and her daughter Mary Corinne Peters, 19, were found dead Tuesday evening by officers who had been sent to check on the family's welfare. The officers had gone to the home at the request of the city manager's office after the mayor did not show up for a scheduled council meeting.

There has been no reason given for these tragic deaths yet and there were four notes left.
R.I.P. for this young lady.
The mayor must have had severe problems nobody knew of. I have not read of her being unstable or not doing her job.

COPPELL, Texas -- When police arrived at a suburban Dallas mayor's sprawling upscale home, they quickly realized something was very wrong. Rather than attend a City Council meeting, Mayor Jayne Peters had apparently taped an envelope to the door with a key and an ominous note inside.
Something unpleasant awaited them, warned the typed missive.
Inside the two-story brick house, Coppell police found a horrific scene Tuesday night. Peters and her 19-year-old college-bound daughter were both dead of gunshot wounds to the head, an apparent murder-suicide committed by the mayor, investigators say.
Three other notes were found at the house. But they did not offer an explanation for the deaths, only instructions for managing family affairs, such as care for the dogs, Coppell Deputy Police Chief Steve Thomas said Wednesday.
Bob Mahalik, mayor pro tem who is now acting mayor of the city, said he had a gut feeling something was wrong when the usually prompt mayor didn't show up for the meeting Tuesday night.

I was pretty sure this is why she took her life but still am upset she has to take her young daughter's life too. That seems very sad to me.

A Dallas area mayor who authorities believe killed herself and her daughter left a note saying the two were still grieving over the 2008 death of their husband and father from cancer, police said Friday.
"My sweet, sweet Corinne had grown completely inconsolable. She had learned to hide her feelings from her friends. But the two of us were lost, alone and afraid. Corinne just kept on asking, 'Why won't God let me die?' We hadn't slept at all and neither one of us could stop crying when we were together," read a typed note that police found in the kitchen.
The note, which also gave instructions on how to care for the family's two dogs and four cats, was among four that police found Tuesday when they discovered the bodies of Coppell Mayor Jayne Peters, 55, and her 19-year-old daughter, Corinne.
Both women had been shot in the head. The Dallas County Medical Examiners Office has ruled the elder Peters' death a suicide and the daughter's death a homicide.

Along with her grief, recent evidence also revealed that the mayor had financial troubles. |
