Sometimes one can never run from the law. It took one hair and ten years but they got this guy for stabbing his wife. Guess he won't be smiling anymore. Just another wife killer that we caught, thank God.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Ten years after the murder of Melissa Groot in Bethel Park police said they finally found her killer.

Allegheny County and Bethel Park police arrested Groot's ex-husband, John Minch, in connection with the crime.

Minch, 41, was arrested at his home in Cameron, W. Va. on Thursday.

Groot was 29 when she was killed in 1999. Police said Groot's new husband, David Groot, came home one day and found his wife dead in the bathtub. She had been stabbed twice and her throat had been slashed. The Groots' 1-year-old son was left sleeping in a crib in the next room and was unharmed.

A West Virginia prosecutor said it was DNA evidence, specifically a hair found on the victim's body, which matched Minch to the crime.

In the US, people are supposed to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. I have know Mr. Minch for over 3 years and I have studied all the available evidence in the case. There is a very high probability that he is innocent.

People jump to the conclusion that DNA evidence is the determinant factor. However, the DNA evidence in this case is mtDNA and it really only gives a possibility that he has a one in 21 chance of being the guilty party. The chance gets a lot lower when you consider other mitigating factors. E.g. a noted forensic expert has put the time of death between 10 AM and 4 PM. Mr. Minch can account for his time during that time period.

The newspaper stories related to his arrest were very damning, but I knew for a fact that some of the things reported in our local paper were completely inaccurate.

Welcome gipperrr:

Thanks for your response and your firsthand knowledge.

We shall see what might transpire in the future. As of now, he has been arrested and LE thinks he is guilty.

Have a good day.
