Stem, N.C. — Granville County police are investigating the disappearance of a Stem mother of two whose car was found abandoned the same day her house caught fire.

Sheriff David Smith said Saturday the remains of Kelly Morris, 28, were not found in the ashes of her burned home.

Authorities found Morris' s burgundy 2005 Honda Accord (North Carolina license plate TXP-5917) Thursday afternoon about a mile away from her home in an undeveloped subdivision. Smith said it was "a short time" after firefighters responded to the blaze at 3220 Tump Wilkins Road.

Morris' keys, purse and cell phone were inside the car, Smith said, and no one was at home at the time. Her husband, Scott Morris, was at work; their two children were at school.

Investigators have not established a cause for the fire, and the State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist with the case. Search and rescue dogs were also on hand Friday to search the home and the area where the car was found.

Granville County sheriff's investigators are asking anyone with information about the fire or Morris' disappearance to contact them at 919-693-3213.

Also, I have read the husband is a suspect in the case but could not get the whole article to come up. I'm sure this is true though. Will keep searching.

Kelly Morris' Family Offers $30K Reward

Snip
STEM, N.C. -- Kelly Morris’ family is now hoping a reward will help lead to an arrest in her case.

The family announced a reward of $30,000 Friday.

“We’ve heard a rumor that the person knows where she’s at, and they didn’t want to tell because there wasn’t a reward,” said Morris’ father, Pat Currin. “That’s not very good to me, but if that’s what it takes, if the reward is what it needs to be, then that’s what it is.”

There is now a hotline to report any information leading to an arrest. You can call (919) 812-2310.

They've got dive teams searching for Kelly. Doesn't sound like based on any info, just checking out the most likely places she'll be found.

Maybe obvious with some types of murderers, but not the case with silent ex's. They tend to try to make it look like someone else did it, and driving over a bridge doesn't point the finger at someone else enough, is one way to put it I guess.

Delving into the minds of silent ex's. Now there's a depressing thought.

Dive teams continue search for missing Granville mom

Dive teams searched around Granville County bridges Tuesday morning but did not find anything, family member Pat Currin said.

Currin’s daughter, Kelly Morris, 28, was last seen on the night of Sept. 3 by her husband, Scott, and children at their home at 3220 Tump Wilkins Road in Stem.

The next day, authorities found her car and personal belongings in an undeveloped subdivision about a mile from the home, shortly after firefighters responded to a fire at the residence.

Investigators have asked for bank statements, canceled checks, deposit slips and all other documents pertaining to accounts at BB&T and RBC Bank for the Morrises and for Scott Morris' business, Scott's Towing, according to search warrants released last week.

Volunteers and authorities have conducted numerous searches for Kelly Morris and will continue this weekend in a five-mile radius in Creedmoor. Volunteers found a gasoline can in a swampy area in Creedmoor that authorities said might have come from the Morris home.

Another worthless lying silent ex. Claims his wife went out looking for a dog. Calls his father to come watch the kids, then he goes out to look for her.

Wow, they're getting this down to a science. The lying is still the same though.

Family offers $30K reward for missing Granville mom

Authorities have not named any suspects, but have said Scott Morris is what they call a person of interest in Kelly Morris' disappearance.

According to search warrants, family members and friends told authorities the couple was having marital problems and had talked about divorce. The warrants also indicate inconsistencies between Scott Morris' account and those of others regarding his actions in the hours after he says he last saw his wife.

Scott Morris told authorities he last saw his wife when she left to look for a missing dog and he showered and went to bed at 9:30 p.m., sleeping through the night.

His father, however, told authorities he talked to his son several times that evening and went to his house to care for the children while, he said, Scott Morris went looking for his wife.

Thanks for the updates RD. Been hard to gather any news on this poor woman. Yea, sure the estranged husband is innocent. Tired of hearing this story, it's become a broken record in most of these cases.

Gee, this comes as a big shock too!! Let's hope they find some more evidence and pray they come up with a body or another 'silent husband' this time gets to walk away and continue to lie. Just my jaded opinion after watching these cases unfolded for years. I could write the script in my sleep by now.

Good thoughts for the family and for Kelly.

He was looking for his wife alright - looking for the right final resting place for his wife, that is. Of course, the missing woman's father-in-law never suspected a thing...

Finally, they are going to search for Kelly.

Also, I read that locally they will stop searching as it is "Hunting Season."
