N.J. mom disappears; baby found in Del.
By ANGELA DELLI SANTI
Associated Press Writer
July 5, 2007

HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. (AP) -- Amy Giordano didn't act like a woman preparing to abandon her life. Three days before she disappeared, the 27-year-old woman filled out and dated a voter registration card. On June 7, the day before she was last heard from, a surveillance videotape shows her picking up groceries and baby diapers as boyfriend Rosario DiGirolamo pushes their 11-month-old son in a shopping cart.

But she was last heard from June 8, when she talked by phone to her 6-year-old son who lives with her ex-husband in New York City. Her 11-month-old, Michael DiGirolamo, was discovered the next day in a hospital parking lot in Newark, Del., a handwritten note pinned to his diaper calling him "John Vincent" and saying his caregiver had no job or health insurance. "God have mercy on me," the anguished note read.

On June 18, her purse was found in the back of her bedroom closet in her third-floor walk-up, still containing her wallet and ID. It also contained a full pack of cigarettes; Giordano was a chain smoker.

"I can't connect all these dots and come up with a happy ending," said her landlord, Mike Vanderbeck. "The only way to connect the dots is to presuppose something bad happened to Amy."

Now the FBI and authorities in two states and Italy are involved in the case.

Vanderbeck identified the baby after an employee recognized a photo of the toddler on TV. The boy remains in foster care, according to Delaware police.

Giordano's boyfriend, who paid her $850 monthly rent though he was married to and living with another woman, hasn't been seen since June 11, the last day he reported for work at Conair Inc. in East Windsor.

Authorities say he flew alone to Italy on June 14, and did not use his June 28 return ticket. His car was found on New York's Staten Island but yielded no clues, said Casey DiBlasio, spokeswoman for the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.

Delaware State Police Cpl. Jeffrey Whitmarsh said Tuesday that someone who knows Giordano told them that "in the days leading up to her disappearance, there was an argument between the two about her leaving him." He said detectives have not confirmed that a fight took place. He would not say who made the claim.

Detectives returned to Giordano's apartment Tuesday to conduct tests on "trace amounts of blood" found inside, DiBlasio said.

FBI agents in New Jersey and Italy are working with Italian authorities to locate DiGirolamo, but so far all they know is that he flew to Milan without Giordano and hasn't flown out of Italy, said Special Agent Sean Quinn in Newark.

Giordano moved into the Hightstown apartment while pregnant with Michael last year. DiGirolamo, 32, who lives in Millstone Township with his wife and 1-year-old, signed the two-year lease and always paid the rent, said Vanderbeck. Giordano, who did not work or drive, depended on DiGirolamo for rides to the pediatrician and elsewhere, the landlord said.

DiGirolamo earned $56,000 a year as a computer analyst but was fired June 22 after failing to show up for work for nine days, Conair vice president John Mayorek told The Times of Trenton.

Authorities say his wife did not know about her husband's second family until police contacted her after DiGirolamo's disappearance. She turned down requests for an interview.

DiGirolamo has no criminal record, but according to property records obtained by The Times of Trenton, the house DiGirolamo and his wife bought in 1999 formerly belonged to Stefano "Steve the Truck Driver" Vitabile, the reputed consigliere of the DeCavalcantes - one of New Jersey's major crime families. Vitabile was sentenced last year to life in prison for his involvement in mob-related killings.

The DeCavalcantes' criminal enterprises have been considered an inspiration for the hit HBO mob drama "The Sopranos."

The FBI's Quinn said Tuesday that authorities have no evidence linking DiGirolamo to organized crime.

"As of now there are hints and allegations but no facts," Quinn said.

Quote:
Officially, Giordano is a missing person and DiGirolamo is a "person of interest" - someone the authorities want to question in her disappearance. He also faces felony child endangerment charges in Delaware because authorities picked up signals from his cell phone near the time and place the baby was abandoned.

Let us hope this missing woman is found and thank God the baby has been discovered. Looks like the ex- is responsible for the disappearance and she may not be alive.

Missing mom last sighted in supermarket
Posted by The Times of Trenton June 22, 2007 8:14PM

HIGHTSTOWN -- Authorities confirmed publicly Friday that the last sighting of missing Hightstown mother Amy Giordano that they have been able to verify was on June 7 at the ShopRite supermarket on Route 130 in East Windsor.

But as the missing persons investigation into the disappearance of Giordano and her married boyfriend, Rosario "Roy" Digirolamo, 32, continued Friday, officials revealed no major developments in the case.

The last known sighting of Digirolamo that police say they are aware of was on June 11 at his job as a computer analyst for Conair Corp. in East Windsor.

Casey DeBlasio, spokeswoman for the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, said that while investigators have verified that Giordano was last seen at the ShopRite on June 7, she declined to comment on whether Giordano, who police said didn't have a license and didn't drive, was with Digirolamo on that shopping trip.

Digirolamo has had an affair with Giordano for three years, although he and his wife, who own a house they share in Millstone Township and have a 1-year-old son, have been married since 1999, police have said.

Digirolamo's wife, who only learned of her husband's affair and child with Giordano over the past week or so because of police efforts to find the missing Hightstown mom, reported him and the Digirolamos' silver 1998 Lexus 300 missing on Monday, said Hightstown police Detective Ben Miller.

Authorities have not disclosed Digirolamo's wife's name.

Hightstown police reported Giordano as a missing person on June 15 after evidence revealed she is the mom of a toddler found abandoned in Delaware six days earlier.

Clues Few in Case of Missing N.J. Mom

When a 27-year-old New Jersey woman disappeared from her apartment on June 8 it at first raised no alarms, but after her 11-month-old son turned up the next day in a hospital parking lot with a note pinned to him identifying himself with a false name, the case gained media attention. Amy Giordano (pictured) has not been seen since and her boyfriend has fled the country.

Authorities say there was nothing about Amy Giordano that would indicate that she was planning to disappear on her own accord:

Three days before she disappeared, she filled out a voter's registration card.

The day before she disappeared, a surveillance videotape captured her buying groceries and baby diapers with her son and boyfriend, Rosario DiGirolamo.

On June 8, she talked with her six-year-old son who lives with Giordano's ex-husband in New York City. It was the last she was heard from.

On June 8, the 11-month-old, Michael DiGirolamo, was found in a Newark, Delaware hospital parking lot with a handwritten note on his diaper that called him "John Vincent." The person writing the note said they had no job or health insurance. "God have mercy on me," the note said.

On June 14, Rosario DiGirolamo, an employee at Conair, flew to Italy on a round-trip ticket with a June 28 expiration date. He did not make the return trip.

On June 18, Giordano's purse was found in the back of her bedroom closet with her wallet and ID still inside. There was also a full pack of cigarettes in the purse. Friends say Giordano was a chain smoker.

Wife Finds Out About Second Family
DiGirolamo, 32, lives in Millstone Township with his wife and one-year-old son. He leased the Hightstown apartment for Giordano a year ago when she was pregnant with Michael, reports show.

Boyfriend Surrenders in Case of Missing New Jersey Mother
Thursday, August 02, 2007

Amy Giordano, 27, last was heard from on June 8.

DOVER, Del. — Sporting dark glasses and a full beard, a New Jersey man considered a "person of interest" in the disappearance of his mistress surrendered Thursday to police in Delaware, where he is charged with abandoning the couple's one-year-old son nearly two months ago, authorities said.

Rosario DiGirolamo, 32, of Millstone, N.J., who went to Italy after the boy was abandoned, turned himself into Delaware State Police in Bear about 9:30 a.m., accompanied by his attorney and his father.

DiGirolamo was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and child abandonment. He was released a few hours later after posting a $10,000 cash bond with the understanding that he will be staying with his family in New York and that he will make no attempt to see the child that was abandoned.

Wife in abandoned toddler case files for divorce
By ALISON KEPNER, The News Journal

Posted Monday, August 6, 2007 at 5:12 pm
The wife of the New Jersey man accused of abandoning in Delaware a boy he fathered with his now-missing mistress has filed for divorce.

Maria DiMaggio cited “extreme cruelty” in a complaint filed last week in the family division of Monmouth County’s New Jersey Superior Court, saying Rosario DiGirolamo had a least one affair, fathered a child outside their marriage and was “unreasonably secretive with his finances.”

Delaware State Police have charged DiGirolamo, 32, with abandoning his then-11-month-old son, Michael, outside Christiana Hospital on June 9. He also remains a “person of interest” in New Jersey authorities’ investigation into the disappearance of the boy’s mother, 27-year-old Amy Giordano. According to police, DiGirolamo and Giordano had a three-year affair that his wife and family had no knowledge of until Michael’s discovery.

DiMaggio, who married DiGirolamo in September 1999 in Brooklyn, is seeking sole custody of the couple’s 1-year-old son, Antonio DiGirolamo, as well as the right to change his last name to DiMaggio. She also is seeking “fair and reasonable” child support, the cost of her legal fees and equitable distribution of property acquired during their marriage.

The complaint also reveals how DiGirolamo, a computer analyst, was able to hide the money he spent on his girlfriend and their son from his wife, who is a certified public accountant. According to DiMaggio’s complaint, DiGirolamo, who told his wife his salary was lower than it really was, used a post office box to prevent his financial information from being delivered to their Millstone Township home.

Finally, we have an arrest in Amy's case. Her boyfriend has been charged with her death even though they have not found her body. She was considered his 'mistress'.

N.J. Man Who Abandoned Son Now Charged With Killing Mistress, Who Remains Missing
Thursday, March 20, 2008

Amy Giordano, 27, last was heard from on June 8.
TRENTON, N.J. — A former New Jersey man was charged Thursday with killing his mistress, who vanished in June. Her body has not been found.

Rosario DiGirolamo is accused of killing Amy Giordano of Hightstown. He was arrested Thursday in the basement of his parents' home in Brooklyn, N.Y., prosecutors and his lawyer said.

DiGirolamo is charged with murder and tampering with evidence, and faces a term of 30 years to life in prison if convicted, Mercer County Prosecutor Joseph L. Bocchini said.

He is being held in New York on $1 million bail, and no extradition hearing was immediately scheduled. Courts are closed on Friday for Good Friday.

Bocchini declined to comment on what led to the arrest, but said evidence shows that Giordano is dead.

2nd Man Charged in N.J. Case of Missing Woman
Who Authorities Think Was Killed By Her Lover
Friday, March 21, 2008

TRENTON, N.J. — A man has been charged with tampering with evidence in the case of a woman presumed killed by the married man she had been seeing, authorities said Friday.

The Mercer County prosecutor's office would not release details on how they believe John A. Russo Jr. of New York City is connected to the case of Amy Giordano's death.

The evidence tampering charges against Russo were announced just one day after Rosario DiGirolamo was charged with murdering Giordano, 27. Her body has not been found.

Russo, 43, has been advised of the charge and is expected to be formally served with the complaint in the next few days, authorities said. He faces a maximum of 18 months in prison if convicted, according to prosecutor's office.

Great, goz. This is another murder charge without a body, with Hans Reiser currently on trial (see Noted coder Hans Reiser arrested for wife's disappearance) and Sam Parker (see Theresa Parker, LaFayette,GA- Missing 3/21/07) in jail.

If these guys think they can get away with no body, no crime, we will have to dissuade them of that with a few convictions.

It's nice to see another arrest when there is no body RD. I hope this will soon be a new trend now that we have seen a few men being arrested and going to trial.

Maybe this will stop a few of this monsters from killing their mates/gf's and burying the bodies so deep knowing they may still have to face justice. Let us hope so.

I'd like to see Joran get his due too but that is not likely to happen but one never knows...

well, the arrest led to some cooperation from an accomplice to the silent ex, it appears. They've found Amy, in a suitcase in a pond.

One less silent ex. May Amy rest in peace.

Partial Skeleton Found in Search for Missing Mom Sought at Staten Island Pond
Associated Press
March 24, 2008

NEW YORK — The search for a New Jersey woman missing since her son was found abandoned in a parking lot last summer led authorities on Sunday to a Staten Island pond, where human bones were discovered in a suitcase.

Two men were charged last week in Amy Giordano's disappearance, including the man with whom she was having an affair, according to authorities. Rosario DiGirolamo, of Millstone, N.J., was charged with murder.

The Mercer County prosecutor's office in New Jersey said the skeletal remains found at the pond Sunday hadn't been identified and DNA testing was being performed.

New Jersey Man Held in Lover's Murder

SNIP
A New Jersey man accused of killing his girlfriend because he could no longer afford to support two households has been ordered held on $1 million bond. Rosario DiGirolamo was arrested last week after the skeletal remains believed to be Amy Giordano were found in a suitcase in a pond in Staten Island, New York.

Prosecutors believe that DiGirolamo killed Giordano by hitting her with a blunt object over the head, sawed her body into pieces, stuffed her into a suitcase and dumped her into the pond.

"He had to get a hand saw or a hacksaw to complete the job of chopping up the body of Amy Giordano," prosecutor Tom Meidt said during the arraignment.

Another boyfriend with a wife had to get rid of his gf due to money problems. Sad that he had to destroy the body and hit her with a blunt object. As Rd stated, "what is going on with dumping the bodie's in suitcases?"

goz, they're locking up these silent ex's as fast as they can find them. And what's not already arrested is half expecting to be arrested any time.

They're on to this "no body, thrown away in a suitcase, no crime" thing.

Silent ex's are now just slightly less endangered than the women they made disappear.
