QA month ago it was reported that experts were almost certain they would be unable to retrieve any information from the hard drive that was found in the river. They planned to try an experimental procedure to try to save some files, but the procedure might end up destroying the equipment. I've seen nothing in print since regarding this experimental procedure. Did it also fail? Also (with no offense intended to you Pete), where has Erin Nissley gone?
Anonymous 1/11/06

AActually, it was reported in the Centre Daily Times some time ago that nothing could be retrieved from that hard drive. It was just too badly damaged. Police were not even able to determine whether in fact it came from Gricar's laptop. The laptop was however confirmed to be Gricar's - just minus the hard drive. And no offense taken. Erin has moved on to become an education beat reporter in Scranton. She's doing quite well from what I hear.
Pete Bosak 4/11/06

QIs someome or some local group watching the sites, bars, restaurants etc.(for people who knew Ray) near where the crime was thought to have taken place? Every crime novel or high profile crime report usually describes a perpetrator who kept going back to the site of his crime especially on the anniversary of the crime or media refocus on it etc.......
Anonymous, DuBois,PA 1/08/06

APerhaps. There are parts of the investigation that are being kept quiet by police, for perhaps these very reasons. There are investigative techniques police will not disclose, but are in play in the investigation into Gricar's disappearance.
Pete Bosak 4/11/06

QWhen the car was dusted for fingerprints, were Ray's fingerprints the only ones found?
selena, Sunbury 12/30/05

AYes, Gricar's Mini Cooper was dusted for fingerprints. Gricar's were the only readable ones found, Bellefonte Police Officer Darrel Zaccagni said. Zaccagni is the lead investigator on the case. While Gricar's were the only ones that were readable, there was no evidence anyone tried to "wipe the car clean" of other prints, Zaccagni said. In other words, that effort turned up nothing.
Pete Bosak 4/11/06

QThe lead detective in this case keeps saying "it's just a missing person" case. Natalee Holloway has gotten more manpower, attention and resources from the local, state and federal authorities than Ray Gricar, a public servant for over twenty years. How come his story isn't a regular feature on Nancy Grace and all the other shows that feature missing persons? What exactly are the local police doing on a daily basis to get to the bottom of his disappearance?
Julie G. , Madison, WI 12/08/05

AYou would have to ask Nancy Grace your first question. As to the second, police and various investigators talk about Ray Gricar's disappearance every day. They hope for ideas, some new angle, some new approach that may yield results, said Bellefonte Police Officer Darrel Zaccagni, the lead investigator on this case. And Zaccagni said every lead, no matter how farfetched, is investigated.
Pete Bosak 4/11/06

Q I was wondering if the "Hairy Johns State Park" was searched for any evidence pertaining to the Ray Gricar case, and if so, how extensive a search was carried out since that is another way to get to Lewisburg on Route 45.
Anonymous, State College, PA 11/24/05

AThe state park and surrounding areas were searched by air, with fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. Those searches found nothing. Police did not do an extensive, arm-to-arm sweeping search with manpower on the ground in the areas surrounding the park. During the past hunting seasons, hunters turned up nothing in that area.
Pete Bosak 4/11/06

QI keep thinking about Mr. Gricar removing his laptop from it's case and only taking the laptop with him. My question is whether the police or FBI took fingerprints in the home where the case was found, the doors, glasses, tables, etc? Maybe there was someone else with him in his home, after Patty left, and was in the car with him from Bellefonte? Also why doesn't the family try a different psychic, like the Allison DuBois from Phoenix, named in the TV Guide that the show Medium was based on? The article says she has boxes of case files she looks at, maybe they can get her to look at this one?
Jeannie, Milroy 11/22/05

AFingerprints were not taken from Gricar's home, said the lead investigator on the case. Remember, this still is considered a missing persons case. There is no indication of foul play. Fingerprints were however taken from Gricar's Mini Cooper where it was found. The only readable prints in the car belonged to Gricar. And there were no indications anyone tried to wipe the car clean of other prints, police said.
Pete Bosak 4/11/06

QWhat are investigators saying now about Gricar's reported fatigue just prior to his disappearance? Also, why did Ms. Fornicola wait until 11:30 at night to call the police? Did she phone anybody else in the course of the day on Friday looking for Gricar?
Anonymous 10/18/05

AInvestigators said Gricar's "fatigue" was nothing out of the ordinary for a professional in such a demanding job. Police said Gricar had no medical problems and had no signs of depression prior to his disappearance. As for Ms. Fornicola's search for Gricar, she was searching for him and called police when it became clear to her something must have gone wrong, police said.
Pete Bosak 4/11/06

QHow many times has someone found some type of junk in a river bed? I know I've found a lot of curious items, but none worth keeping. Finding a mud-encrusted laptop computer in a river seems like it would elicit an immediate "throw it back" response. Was there a "be on the lookout for a laptop computer" notice in regards to this case? Who were the fishermen that found this computer and did their story check out? Might these fishermen have anything else to do with the case?
Anonymous, Middlesex, NJ 10/12/05

AFinding such items in a river, especially this one, is rare, investigators said. The referred to "be on the lookout for a laptop computer notice" is a valid point, as Gricar's laptop was missing along with the prosecutor and this had been widely reported in the Centre Daily Times and beyond. The fishermen's stories checked out. Aware of news coverage of Gricar's disappearance, including that of his laptop, they called police about their discoveries. As it turned out, the laptop itself did in fact belong to Gricar. As for the hard drive, found separately, it was too badly damaged to determine whether it came from Gricar's computer, investigators said.
Pete Bosak 4/11/06

QHas the CDT done any investigative reporting regarding Mr Gricars background, his moods, involvement with other women, how others outside his family viewed him, etc., to see if there is any connection with his disappearance? If so, what have you learned?
Anonymous 10/07/05

AAll information to this point indicates Gricar was looking forward to retirement and a life with his girlfriend, Patty Fornicola. Gricar was in a dedicated relationship with Patty and by all accounts seemed happy with other areas of his life.
Pete Bosak 4/11/06

QGiven the facts - a county prosecutor disappeared under mysterious circumstances nearly 9 months ago; his disappearance may have been the result of foul play related to his work (which could have serious implications for all other prosecutors in the state); and local law enforcement, despite its best efforts, has been unable to crack this case - why is there such resistance at the local level toward turning the investigation over to the state attorney general's office? Instead of patting themselves on the back for "leaving no stone unturned" and then shrugging their shoulders over what to do next, why not bring the state's full resources to bear on this case? Conversely, due to the possible statewide implications if Ray Gricar was a victim of foul play, why didn't the attorney general take over the investigation long ago? How many district attorneys (and their families) have been sitting on pins and needles for 9 months, wondering who might be next?
Anonymous 1/11/06

AThe man who would have sole authority to call in the state Attorney General's Office for help, Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira, has said there is nothing more that state agency can offer that already has not been brought to bear in this case. And a spokesman with the Attorney General's Office has agreed that there is nothing more that agency can offer than what already has been put into play by Bellefonte police and Pennsylvania State Police troopers, who arguably have the very best training, methods and equipment at their disposal. There are two qualifications that must be met before Madeira could ask the state's Attorney General to intervene. First, there would have to be some prosecutorial conflict of interest. Since there are no suspects and no one to prosecute, there obviously is no conflict of interest from a prosecution standpoint. As for the second factor, Madeira would have be able to argue Centre County law enforcement does not have the resources necessary to conduct a thorough investigation. And that, Madeira has said, is not the case. All of the state's resources have been brought to bear, law enforcement professionals agree. By Pete Bosak.

Police: Woman seen with missing DA sought

The Associated Press

BELLEFONTE -- The lead investigator in the year-old disappearance of a prosecutor revealed for the first time on Tuesday that police are looking for a woman reportedly seen with the district attorney the day he disappeared.

The woman seen with Centre County District Attorney Ray F. Gricar on April 15, 2005, at an antiques market in Lewisburg may have been the last person to have spoken with the prosecutor, Bellefonte Police Officer Darrel Zaccagni said.

He said investigators are interested in talking with the woman though "she is definitely not a suspect." Police spoke with an acquaintance of Gricar who fit the description the following day, but determined that it was not her.

Other state and local law enforcement agencies helping in the search were aware of the report, though authorities haven't refocused their attention on it until recently, after investigators began to review the case file again, Zaccagni said.

"Should we maybe have looked at it closer, then? Yeah, maybe," he said. "But I don't think it was detrimental to the investigation early on."

Gricar was reported missing by his girlfriend after he failed to return from a drive on April 15, 2005. His car was found the next day at the parking lot of the antiques market in Lewisburg.

Zaccagni said he doubts that anyone will come forward with information about the woman, given the attention already paid to the case, but "maybe this will spark someone's memory ... We would love to talk to her."

Comment: I think the police should have investigated this lead right away since they knew about it.

'Dateline NBC' films Gricar segment

Police hopeful show brings new attention to case

Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira is interviewed by Sara James about Ray Gricar for Dateline NBC at Governors Park in Bellefonte.
More photosBELLEFONTE --

"Dateline NBC" crews finished interviewing in the region Monday for a segment to air Saturday on the disappearance of former Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar.

"I find this case to be tragic," said "Dateline NBC" reporter Sara James shortly after taping an interview with District Attorney Michael Madeira in Governors Park. "You look at the family, still waiting for answers a year later. It makes you sad."

Also Monday morning, "Dateline" crews interviewed Bellefonte police Officer Darrel Zaccagni, lead investigator on the Gricar disappearance. James also spoke with Gricar's girlfriend and housemate, Patty Fornicola.

"All of the possibilities seem equally possible and equally plausible," James said. "It is legitimately a real mystery."

Gricar took April 15, 2005, off from work, and called Fornicola to tell her he was taking a drive on state Route 192 toward Lewisburg. He has been neither seen nor heard from since. His car was found a day later in a parking lot in Lewisburg.

His laptop computer was found in July by fishermen in the nearby Susquehanna River. The hard drive, pulled cleanly from the computer, was found on the Susquehanna's banks in October, but was too badly damaged for investigators to glean anything from it.

Police have worked on three theories: murder, suicide or intentional disappearance.

"Time after time what I hear is, 'I don't know,' " James said. "I just don't know. It's heartbreaking for the family. It's frustrating for law enforcement. That's why we are interested in this story, that by having this on national TV, we hope someone with a piece of information will come forward."

That is why Madeira and Zaccagni said they were pleased "Dateline NBC" was in Bellefonte.

"What I appreciate about a nationwide show like 'Dateline NBC' is it keeps it in the public spotlight," Madeira said. "The leads have grown cold. We're at a dead end.

"So we'll take any leads we can get," Madeira said.

The show is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. Saturday

Clues renew interest in Gricar case

Investigators say the information had fallen by the wayside
By Pete Bosak

Full coverage

BELLEFONTE -- Previously undisclosed news that missing former District Attorney Ray Gricar may have been seen shopping with an unknown woman the day he disappeared set off a national media firestorm on Wednesday and had investigators scrambling to defend their reasons for not divulging it sooner.

Bellefonte Police Chief Shawn Weaver and the lead investigator on this case, Officer Darrel Zaccagni, said they fielded calls throughout the day Wednesday from national media, including Fox News' Greta Van Susteren. Investigators said they are stunned by the media interest in information they have known since the day after Gricar's April 15, 2005, disappearance.

That's when the owner of a shop in a Lewisburg antiques mall told police he saw Gricar on April 15, walking with and talking to a woman. If that happened, the woman could be the last person to have talked to Gricar.

But police, after speaking with an acquaintance of Gricar who fit the description of the woman and determining it was not her in the antiques mall, did not pursue the lead further. No public appeal was made to find the woman.

Zaccagni said he revealed the information this week to "Dateline NBC" for a story about Gricar it plans to broadcast at 8 p.m. Saturday in the hopes the publicity would help police find the woman, or any other new lead. The mystery woman was described as between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, dark haired and "good looking," Zaccagni said.

"It all fits very fluently and conveniently together," he said. "In the witness's mind, they knew each other and they had some kind of relationship. But I would argue that we didn't hold this back."

Police defend actions

Law-enforcement officials sought to put a positive spin on the situation Wednesday.

"This is definitely not a new revelation," said Weaver, who took office in January. "But we're hoping this national attention, in the form of "Dateline NBC," will give us that one lead we need to find Ray."

Zaccagni also revealed Wednesday that police are also looking for a "construction-worker type" who was seen leaning into the passenger side of a red Mini-Cooper -- the type of car Gricar drove -- in the parking lot of the antiques mall.

"What their relationship is, we don't know," Zaccagni said.

Gricar's vehicle was found in that parking lot April 16, 2005. Police have said they found cigarette ash in the car on the passenger-side floor, although Gricar did not smoke and did not allow anyone to smoke in the car.

For more than a week after Gricar's disappearance, Bellefonte police held almost daily news conferences covered by local and national media. But the mystery woman was never mentioned.

"Hindsight is 20/20," Zaccagni said. "If you're going to find fault, yeah, maybe we should have went to the media about this woman sooner. But there was no attempt to hide anything at all. She just fell by the wayside."

Although Zaccagni now describes the witness report as the first credible sighting of Gricar after he went missing, he and Weaver said police were following a plethora of leads at the time and it simply did not come up in communications with the media.

"It just became another Ray sighting that could not be verified," Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira said. "It was something that was not seized upon at the time by law enforcement or the media because of everything else that was going on at the time."

The sighting may have been kept under wraps, in part, Zaccagni said, out of concern for Gricar's family and loved ones should the revelation raise suspicions that Gricar was having an affair.

In addition, Zaccagni said, with all the attention on the case, "I thought she would have come forward if she were really there."

Shocked reaction

The news of the sighting, and the attention it has grabbed, had Gricar's girlfriend, Patty Fornicola, near tears Wednesday. She said she knows the man she planned to spend the rest of her life with did not run off with another woman.

"That is not even a possibility," Fornicola said. "His last words to me in that phone call (on April 15, 2005) was 'I love you.' You don't say 'I love you,' get that same response back and two hours later run off with another woman."

Gricar and the woman were walking through the market, but there was no physical contact between them, the witness reported. Weaver said police have no idea who the woman is, what her relationship with Gricar was or even if she actually exists. It's possible, he said, that she was simply another shopper at the mall who kept bumping into Gricar, and who had no idea who he was.

Police aren't even certain the man was Gricar.

While she is of interest, "she is definitely not a suspect," Zaccagni said.

Gricar's nephew, Tony Gricar, of Dayton, Ohio, said Tuesday that he could not initially recall police telling him of the woman seen with Gricar at the antiques market.

"To me, that's an odd little bombshell," he said.

Tony Gricar discounted any notion his uncle could have been seeing the woman spotted with him in the market.

"Rationally speaking, with the work he was doing and living with Patty, I don't see that as being too realistic," he said.

Madeira emphasized police were not intentionally holding back information.

"This isn't new," he said. "It is simply a review of old stuff we didn't have leads on then. But this is an opportunity for national exposure to perhaps generate some lead."

Missing DA's Family Calls for Changes

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) - May 14, 2006 - A relative of a Centre County prosecutor who has been missing for more than a year wants local police to turn the investigation over to state police.

Former Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar vanished on April 15, 2005.
Bellefonte police have been investigating, but Gricar's nephew now wants them to turn things over to Pennsylvania Sate Police.

Tony Gricar says a Centre Daily Times review of the investigation reveals what he calls "stunning" missteps by the department.

But Bellefonte Police Chief Shawn Weaver says his department will not relinquish the case. He says the department will remain steadfast in the investigation and see it through.

Gricar family upset by missteps

Chief refuses to hand over case
By Pete Bosak

pbosak@centredaily.com

The family of Ray Gricar is calling for Bellefonte police to hand its investigation over to a state or federal agency in light of a Centre Daily Times review of the case that found apparent mistakes by the department.

The plea came Saturday, the day the CDT published what Tony Gricar called "stunning" missteps by the Bellefonte Police Department.

"At this point, it seems to be a colossal collapse in judgment," the nephew of the missing former prosecutor said, speaking on behalf of the Gricar family.

But Bellefonte Police Chief Shawn Weaver said his department will not relinquish the case -- despite the request from Tony Gricar and what the chief called pressure from the media.

"I'm not going to be swayed to give this case up," Weaver said. "We will remain steadfast in this investigation, and we will see it through."

Messages left for Gricar's live-in girlfriend, Patty Fornicola, were not returned Saturday.

New revelations more than a year after a Gricar vanished, supposedly from a Lewisburg antiques mall, also prompted district attorneys in two nearby counties to call for a statewide task force of investigators. The two prosecutors also questioned whether Gricar's disappearance should have been handled by Bellefonte police in the first place.

Among the findings revealed Saturday in a CDT review of the case:

u Assistant District Attorney Carolyn Fenton said she is positive she saw Gricar in a metallic-colored car leaving the county courthouse parking lot at 3 p.m. April 15, 2005, the day he vanished -- supposedly -- from an antiques mall in Lewisburg. The sighting was discounted and never made public because it did not fit a police timeline of Gricar's whereabouts.

u The case's lead investigator, Bellefonte police Officer Darrel Zaccagni, did not personally interview Gricar's two best friends, Assistant District Attorney Steve Sloane and State College resident Ed Walker. Zaccagni also did not interview all county employees who had daily contact with Gricar.

u Police admit they are not personally watching Gricar's savings and checking accounts but are leaving it up to his daughter, Lara Gricar, to report any unusual activity. Experts called this move a "serious" mistake. Lara Gricar held those two accounts jointly with her father.

"It's just incredible," Tony Gricar said Saturday.

He was particularly disturbed by the fact that Fenton's sighting of Gricar was rejected. "She's as credible a witness as we've had all along," Tony Gricar said.

Fenton told police in the days following Gricar's disappearance that she saw him in a metallic-colored car, not his red Mini Cooper or Fornicola's Honda. Fenton said she is sure of what she saw, but police said it could not have been Gricar because he was spotted by witnesses in Lewisburg during the early afternoon.

"But she knew him," Tony Gricar said in near disbelief. "The single most-credible witness was discredited because of timeline issues when police didn't even have a credible timeline."

The Gricar family is also upset that Zaccagni has not sat down with Sloane and Walker -- or any other county employee -- for in-depth interviews during the past 13 months.

"The fact that (Zaccagni) never spoke to Ray's two closest friends is amazing to me," Tony Gricar said. "If I went missing, I'd want investigators talking to my best friends."

Weaver, sworn into office in January, said he met with a plethora of investigators when he became chief and came away impressed by the investigation.

"I still am very impressed by the work we've done, and we will continue to stay the course," Weaver said.

Montour County District Attorney Bob Buehner renewed his calls for state Attorney General Tom Corbett to step in -- now.

"The attorney general has been too silent for too long," Buehner said Saturday. "The information the CDT has been able to uncover absolutely reinforces we need a statewide task force for this investigation, made up of top-notch police investigators, led by an experienced prosecutor, to come in and solve this thing."

Bellefonte police, and Zaccagni, have done the best they can on limited time and resources, Buehner said. State police at Milton, literally one mile from the Lewisburg bridge from which Gricar's laptop may have been tossed, have been "underutilized," he said.

And the Lewisburg police have not been used, he said.

"I have never believed from the first weekend that Centre County law enforcement had any jurisdiction in this," Buehner said. "There is strong possibility foul play was involved and, if so, it appears to have happened in Lewisburg, Union County."

Union County District Attorney Pete Johnson was out of the area Saturday and could not be reached for comment. Messages left on Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira's cell phone and at his office were not returned Saturday.

"It's not a Centre County case," Clinton County District Attorney Ted McKnight said.

He too is calling for Corbett to take over the case with state police -- if Lewisburg police and the Union County District Attorney's office do not want it.

"The reality of this case is the center of events and sightings has been Lewisburg, and that happens to be in Union County," McKnight said.

Because Gricar was reported missing to Bellefonte police, they have led the investigation.

Tony Gricar welcomed Buehner's and McKnight's involvement.

"It's great to have more learned voices speaking out," Tony Gricar said. "It's definitely nice to hear those voices standing up for Ray."

PostPosted: Thu Jun 22, 2006 12:54 pm    Post subject: a brief review of Hauntings Reply with quote

I watched this episode of Haunting on Ray Gricar last
night and was not that impressed. Most of the show seemed
a tad bit staged for television. Also, I have heard those that
work with the missing say that psychics are not to be trusted
and never solve cases. I do not know if this is true, but if
they did solve cases, all of our cold cases would be solved to date.

What impressed me was that actual footage was
portrayed in the episode. I was actually privy to the
Courthouse, the actual size of the river that Mr. Gricar
drove too and other area sites. This I felt brought me
closer to the case. I'm glad the condition of the computer
was shown to the public.

I too believe Ray has met with foul play, sometimes
though feeling he may have been put in the Witness
Protection Program but always going back to my
original theory. The conclusion from the paranormal
and psychics from this show is that Ray met with foul
play after he accidentally discovered something in his
files regarding drug cases.

The Show seemed to have been taped in the winter
months by the atmosphere and attire but it seems like
some of the clues have already been posted in
the case--- (do not quote me on this)! Of course,
they have come to their conclusions on where Mr. Gricar's
body will be found, that he has been beaten, and there
may be one more item in the water. Also, it was
stated these clues were given to the detectives on the case.

I do not know if this news is astounding anyone that has
followed the case, except of course their theories on the
body. It makes good television though. My only
question is ----------------------> will LE follow up on
what clues they provided?

My prayers are always with Mr. Gricar and family.

Hi goz, thanks for this new info on Ray. Concerning the sighting with a woman at the antiques mall, I did not see for sure the date and time of the sighting. I might have missed it.

My first reaction was that this was the "he was sighted at the mall the next day" report which I discounted. People who think they saw someone that looks like Gricar are just going to happen.

I don't know if this is the source of that "next day" sighting or known to be around noon on April 15, the day he disappeared. Even then, it's information but just as unreliable as the "next day" sighting.

Far more intense is the sighting by someone who worked with him of him driving away from the courthouse in a different car later that afternoon, yet was completely discounted because his own car was found in Lewisburg.

Maybe was mistaken, but these sightings should have been followed up and divulged long ago to seek public help. I feel this is very similar to Chandra's case. They think he ran away as the DC police did with Chandra and basically never investigated the disappearance.

First Rd, as always, nice to see you again and get your input. I agree with you on the sighting of Ray Gricar.

I think in many missing cases we are going to get these types of reports, as you also stated this happened with Chandra's case. I'm a little fuzzy on the facts too-- exactly when these sightings were reported, and whom reported them.

Nevertheless, LE should always follow up on every lead that is suspect.

Gut reaction though--- Mr. Gricar did not run away or take his life, He is no longer with us (unfortunately) but a victim of foul play. I do not need to be a psychic to go with this feeling. I hope I am wrong.

Goz- Have a good weekend all.

QIn light of the recent airing of "Hauting Evidence" on Court TV, what action has been taken by law enforcement to follow up on the presumptions, or "visions", of the psychics ? I found that show to be quite interesting. Even Officer Zacaggni remarked that the psychics, John Oliver and Carla Baron, were able to "access" information about the case that has never been revealed by the police. For anyone that didn't see the first airing of the show, it will be on again Sunday, June 25th at 11:00 PM. Personally, I was disturbed by the psychics final call on what may have happened to Mr. Gricar. I hope they are wrong on this one.

AI'm getting a lot of thoughts like yours. I too hope they are wrong.
Pete Bosak 6/24/06

QI have been following this case briefly throughout the past year, and watched a show on tv last eve--court tv to be exact...where they had used psychics and mediums..they retraced Gricar's moves the day he disappeared. I am not one to rely upon psychic visions, however, a few things the psychics touched upon were eerily accurate in many regards...was wondering if anyone else viewed this program and how they now feel about this case...in that Gricar met someone in Lewisburg, in that meeting someone was his intention..that he was abducted and threatened by whomever took him and later murdered.
Anonymous 6/24/06

AEerily accurate maybe. But like the saying goes, if you get a thousand monkey's banging on a computer keyboard, sooner or later, one of them is going to quote Shakespeare. But whatever solves this mystery and finally uncovers what happened to Ray is fine with me.
Pete Bosak 6/24/06

QI have a question and a comment. With the report on Court Tv on 6/21/06 will they invesetigate the places brought up in that report? Until this matter is resolved I sincerely hope NO ONE GIVES UP and the truth of what happened to Ray needs to be found out for everyone. He is a marvelous man and undoubtedly a brilliant prosecutor. My prayers to his family and to everyone investigating this matter. Please DO NOT allow this matter to go unresolved.

APolice have checked out what they could as far as psychic's tips. But so far, they've come up with nothing. Thanks for your question, echoing the sentiments of so many others.
Pete Bosak 6/24/06

QThank you for keeping Ray's story alive! What is about Haunting Evidence being there and the things they said. Personally I don't believe in that stuff...however, will their claims be investitgated? Will the area of where they said his body was thrown be searched?
CJ, GA 6/22/06

AThank you for reading. I too watched Haunting Evidence and I've actually heard of a lot of the claims they've made and police have checked out what they could. The problem is that psychics often are so vague what they say is not really actionable anyway. I'm with you in saying I don't believe in any of the psychic stuff, so I'm not optimistic they are going to help police find out what happened to Ray. But I will say this about the show, it generated interest and got people talking about the case. And, police have told me, it's going to be a lucky break that comes to them after one of these shows that finally solves the mystery.

Gricar review remains undone
Investigators set to evaluate handling of case

Happy Valley: No priority in Gricar case

BELLEFONTE -- A state police team of investigators looking into Bellefonte Police Department's handling of the Ray Gricar disappearance now is not scheduled to meet until the middle of October.

While he had hoped the team of elite criminal investigators would have met by now for an in-depth review of the investigation into the disappearance of the former district attorney, Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira said he is not concerned about the time the troopers' review is taking.

"I'm willing to let it take whatever time it takes," said Madeira, who requested the review.

Gricar seemed to vanish without a trace after calling his live-in girlfriend on April 15, 2005, to say he was taking a drive along state Route 192 toward Lewisburg and would not be home to walk their dog that afternoon.

His Mini Cooper was found outside an antiques mall in Lewisburg the next day, but there was no sign of what happened to Gricar.

Family spokesman Tony Gricar, Ray Gricar's nephew, said he also is not troubled by the time it is taking troopers -- gathered from across the state -- to review the investigation.

"I want them to do it right," Gricar said. "I hope the reason it has been pushed out from June to mid-October is due diligence."

Gricar renewed his call for Pennsylvania State Police to take over the investigation into his uncle's disappearance. He said Bellefonte police are only reacting to information that is given to them rather than aggressively investigating at this point because they do not have the resources. Bellefonte Police Chief Shawn Weaver said no new information has been provided to his department. And Tony Gricar said the family also has heard nothing of late.

"Not a thing," Tony Gricar said. "Obviously, that's frustrating."

The state police team has gathered material from Bellefonte police and have conducted interviews, Madeira said. But it has not yet been able to coordinate a meeting of the troopers to meet and discuss the investigation. The meeting set for mid-October could last three days.

Madeira said nothing from that meeting likely will be made public immediately. The review is to determine whether anything may have been missed by Bellefonte police in their search for the missing prosecutor.

Sadly, there has not been any news on Ray's case as of late, nor any breaking news on the investigation.

Our thoughts are always with Ray and his family.
