This is a very compelling quote from an article benn has posted:
quote
Manassas Police Chief John J. Skinner said his department is very cautious with every missing-person report because of similar cases in the past. That caution probably helped them preserve evidence and interview important witnesses early on, Skinner said.
"We're very, very careful in scrutinizing every missing person report . . . especially when we have a special relationship or a domestic relationship involved," Skinner said.
The need to be skeptical of domestic partners arises largely out of many documented cases of domestic homicides. While cases such as the disappearance of Laci Peterson in Modesto, Calif., make national headlines, there have been a number in the Washington region, including four in Prince William County since January 1998.
