Drew Peterson, the former suburban Chicago police officer convicted of killing his third wife and suspected in the disappearance of his fourth, has been charged with trying to hire someone to kill the prosecutor who helped put him in state prison, authorities announced Monday.
Peterson appeared in court on charges that between September 2013 and December 2014, while behind bars, he solicited a person to find someone he could pay to kill Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow. Peterson did not enter a plea.
Peterson, 61, has been in prison since he was convicted in 2012 of first-degree murder in the 2004 bathtub drowning of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Savio's death initially was ruled an accident, but after Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared in 2007, Savio's body was exhumed and her death was ruled a homicide.
Glasgow's office charged Drew Peterson with murder and in 2012 the former Bolingbrook police sergeant was convicted and sentenced to 38 years in state prison.
The latest complaint was filed by both the Illinois attorney general's office and the prosecutor in Randolph County - the location of Menard Correctional Center, where Peterson is serving his sentence. In the two-page complaint, Peterson is charged with solicitation of murder for hire and one count of solicitation of murder, both felonies carrying a maximum sentence of at least 30 years in prison.

Drew has pleaded not guilty- as if we didn't know he would. He has asked for a speedy trial.

Drew Peterson, a former suburban Chicago police officer convicted of killing his third wife and suspected in his fourth wife's disappearance, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to trying to hire someone to kill the prosecutor who helped put him in prison.
Peterson's feet were shackled as he waived a preliminary hearing in the court in Randolph County in southern Illinois, near the Menard Correctional Center where he's serving time. He was charged in February with soliciting an unidentified person to find someone he could pay to kill Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow.

Watch Jean Casarez's CNN Special Report, "Married to a Murderer: The Drew Peterson Story," Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET.
(CNN)If you thought wife murderer Drew Peterson was done with the legal system, think again.
Peterson is now accused of trying to murder -- from behind bars -- the prosecutor who put him there. This summer, he's scheduled to be back in a courtroom, this time on two counts of murder solicitation.
Peterson has pleaded not guilty to the charges that he hired someone to kill James Glasgow, a renowned Illinois prosecutor who won the conviction in 2012 that sent Peterson away for 38 years. The former Chicago-area police sergeant was found guilty of murdering his ex-wife, Kathleen Savio.
To this day, questions still loom about Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy Cales Peterson, who disappeared in October 2007.
A CNN special report, "Married to a Murderer: The Drew Peterson Story," takes a fresh look at how Peterson went from a police officer to a convicted killer. |

Former Illinois police sergeant Drew Peterson was found guilty Tuesday of trying to kill the prosecutor who helped send him to prison for killing his third ex-wife.
Peterson, 62, was convicted of two counts of solicitation of murder for trying to hire a hit man from prison to kill County State's Attorney James Glasgow, Attorney General Lisa Madigan said in a statement.
Glasgow won the 2012 conviction that sent Peterson away for the 2004 murder of Kathleen Savio. Peterson was serving a 38-year sentence for Savio's death when he tried to hire a prosecutor to kill Glasgow between 2013 and 2014, prosecutors said.
Peterson faces a mandatory sentence of 20 to 40 years in prison for solicitation of murder for hire and 15 to 30 years in prison for solicitation of murder, Madigan said. His sentencing is scheduled for July 26.

this poor excuse for a cop and a human, hopefully Internal Affairs of the Chicago police force is looking into his cases, as he'd stoop to anything to serve himself...Wow has to be a bad cop, as he's one evil piece of work! _________________ A vision sent me on the path of seeking justice for Chandra, nothing I've seen in print to date has diminished the vividness but only served to reaffirm the validity of this vision. |
