Harold Henthorn was indicted after two years for throwing his 2nd wife off a cliff. A tough case to prove but investigators are taking their time.

Sadly, (as with Drew Peterson) this is the 2nd freak accident that has taken place.
His first wife died when a CAR JACK Fell on her. The case is now being reopened but he has not been charged. It appears "he felt his tires were mushy... " and he was under the car w/ the jack, and don't know how but his wife must have went under the car to find a LUG NUT...and well, the Jack fell on her...... OMG!

Let us hope this can be proved.

His 2nd wife had 3 insurance policies totaling over 4 million.

We hope to see justice for these women.

DENVER—
A federal grand jury has indicted a Colorado man for the murder of his wife who plummeted 50 feet to her death in Rocky Mountain National Park in 2012, authorities said on Thursday.

Harold Henthorn, 58, was arrested by agents from the National Park Service and the FBI following a two-year probe into the death of Toni Henthorn, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement.

According to the indictment handed up on Wednesday, Henthorn "willfully, deliberately, maliciously, and with premeditation and malice aforethought" caused the death of his wife.

Prosecutors have charged Henthorn, who lives in the Denver suburb of Highlands Ranch, with first-degree murder. If convicted, he faces a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole. Details of the investigation have not been released.

Toni Henthorn, a 50-year-old ophthalmologist, was hiking with her husband on Sept. 29, 2012, in the Deer Mountain area of Rocky Mountain National Park when she fell to her death, the park service said at the time.

The park, about 65 miles northwest of Denver, traverses the Continental Divide and contains the headwaters of the Colorado River.

Local and federal authorities are investigating the deaths of a Highlands Ranch man’s two wives which took place 18 years apart from each other.
The deaths that were initially reported as freak accidents but have now drawn intense interest from investigators with the FBI, National Park Service and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
[...]
“I want to cooperate with you,” said Harold Henthorn, 57. “But I know you spoke with my attorney and ask you to speak to him.”
His lawyer, Craig Truman
[...]
“I’m sure when all the facts are known in this difficult and complicated case that justice will be done.”
Truman declined to discuss the ongoing probes of the untimely deaths of Henthorn’s wives. Henthorn has told friends, neighbors and associates he is innocent and has done nothing wrong. He has not been charged with a crime.
Law enforcement interest in Henthorn began in September 2012 after his second wife, Toni, fell off a cliff in Rocky Mountain National Park while hiking with her husband, the only witness to her death.
The couple, who have an 8-year-old daughter together, were hiking in the Deer Mountain area of the national park, although they had left the trail and were in a rocky area. It was their anniversary weekend and they would have marked 13 years of marriage the next day.
Harold Henthorn told investigators his wife was preparing to take a picture when she fell about 50 feet to her death. He told investigators he was looking at his cellphone and did not see precisely what happened. The Sept. 29, 2012, incident was initially labeled an unfortunate accident.
[...]
the autopsy report for Toni Henthorn which raised numerous questions about her death. In his autopsy report three months after the incident, forensic pathologist Dr. James Wilkerson of the Larimer County Coroner’s office wrote:
Toni Henthorn, a 50 year old white female, died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries when she fell or was pushed down a cliff while hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. The manner of death is undetermined. The circumstances of death are under investigation at the time of this report. Homicide cannot be excluded.

Also not commenting is the family of Sandra Lynn Henthorn, Harold Henthorn’s first wife who died in a tragic, freak accident in Douglas County. The 37-year-old woman, whose maiden name is Rishell, died in 1995.
In that case, the married couple was returning late at night from a mountain outing when Henthorn told investigators he believed one of the tires on his Jeep Cherokee felt “mushy” and may have been going flat on Highway 67 about 8.5 miles west of Deckers. It’s unclear if the tire was actually flat.
Henthorn explained to investigators that as he was changing the tire his wife somehow ended up under the car, possibly looking for a lug nut, when Henthorn said the jack slipped and the car fell on her.
Henthorn told investigators he was placing something in the trunk when the jack slipped, so he didn’t see exactly what happened. Sandra Lynn Henthorn was pronounced dead the next day on May 7, 1995.
Sources familiar with that case say that Henthorn was the beneficiary of at least $300,000 from an insurance policy he had taken out on his wife.
In the case, the coroner ruled “that the cause of death is due to mechanical asphyxiation secondary to a vehicle slipping off the jack and falling on top of the decedent.”
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department investigated the incident and after seven days, concluded Sandra Lynn Henthorn’s death was accidental. However, Douglas County Sheriff’s investigators have now confirmed
[...]
they have reopened their 18-year-old investigation into her death.
“It warrants taking another look at,” said Douglas County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Ron Hanavan. “We reopened it based on extraordinary circumstances.”

Colorado man faces a murder charge in what he initially said was an accidental fatal fall by his second wife on a 12th wedding anniversary outing, and now authorities also are re-examining the circumstances of his first wife's death.

Harold Henthorn, 58, appeared before a federal judge in Denver on Thursday to face a first-degree murder charge in the death of Toni Henthorn, who died after falling off a cliff in Rocky Mountain National Park in September 2012.

The couple, who met through a Christian dating website, was enjoying an anniversary getaway and reportedly hiking in steep and rocky terrain when Toni Henthorn plunged 40 to 50 feet to her death, according to park officials and Toni Henthorn's family.

Authorities haven't disclosed any motives. Toni Henthorn was insured for $4.5-million under three life insurance policies, probate court records show.

The documents also state that a claim was sent on one of those policies on October 1, 2012, two days after Toni Henthorn's death.

However, no payment was made. The couple also had a daughter, who is now 9, said Toni Henthorn's brother Todd Bertolet.

Not shocking to find out he had it planned, as probably the death of his first wife. He had a map where she fell? What do we call this-- Dumb Killer?

May she rest in peace.

I hope he gets charged and the full punishment for both murders.

Warrants: Man who pushed wife off cliff planned deadly hike, had map showing where she fell
Published November 20, 2014

·Associated Press
A suburban Denver man charged with pushing his wife to her death off a cliff in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park could not explain to investigators why he had a park map with an "X'' drawn at the spot where she fell.

Newly unsealed court documents say Harold Henthorn denied using the map during the deadly Sept. 29, 2012, hike. But he told friends that he scouted out the park's steep and craggy terrain at least six times, trying to find the perfect place to take Toni to celebrate their 12th year of marriage.

In more than 20 search warrants made public Wednesday, authorities say Henthorn studied his wife's financial status before marrying her, gave conflicting stories about what he was doing when she fell and may have tried to kill her previously.

Henthorn, 58, was indicted last week on a first-degree murder charge in the death of Toni Henthorn, 50, a wealthy ophthalmologist from Mississippi. Prosecutors say she fell more than 140 feet off a cliff in a remote area far from the trail the couple had been hiking.

Henthorn's attorney, Craig L. Truman, declined to comment Wednesday.

Sounds like,,, Drew Peterson..

Maybe there will be other women in his past?

I just hate when we see these dudes kill more than one wife.

I guess when accidents are involved it may be difficult to determine
when the first occurs that it is homicide.

Justice, Please..

SN- saw a crime show movie where a man killed like 5 wives. Can't remember what his name was. Scary stuff.

Prosecutors kicked off opening statements on Tuesday in Denver, Colorado, where they alleged Harold Henthorn killed his wife Toni Henthorn by pushing her off a cliff in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Authorities are now also investigating the death of Henthorn’s first wife whose manner of death has recently been changed from “accidental” to “undetermined.” Sandra Lynn Henthorn was allegedly crushed to death by an SUV while she was helping Harold change a flat tire, also after their 12th wedding anniversary.

Jury finds man guilty of killing wife by pushing her off cliff

Snip
A Colorado man accused of killing his wife by pushing her off a cliff has been found guilty, CBS Denver reports.

A jury returned a guilty verdict Monday in its second day of deliberations in the trial of Harold Henthorn, for the death of his second wife, Toni, in her 2012 death in Rocky Mountain National Park.

WATCH: "48 Hours:" The Accidental Husband

Prosecutor Valeria Spencer portrayed Henthorn during closing arguments Friday as a man who has killed twice, though he was on trial for just one death.

During the trial, prosecutors alleged that Henthorn also killed his first wife, Lynn, in 1995, but was never charged in the case, which was ruled an accident. She died when the couple's Jeep fell off a jack during a tire change on a remote road, crushing her beneath it.
Henthorn collected more than $600,000 in life insurance in that case. Prosecutors noted during the trial that Henthorn was the sole beneficiary of his second wife's life insurance policies totaling $4.7 million in coverage.

Victim Number 3?

Harold Henthorn had millions of dollars worth of life insurance money on both of his wives. According to federal authorities, he had also taken out a policy on his former sister-in-law, Grace Rishell, pictured right.

Rishell believes it is logical to conclude that she would have been the third victim.

In 1999, Southern belle Dr. Toni Bertolet met Rocky Mountain man Harold Henthorn. Toni's brother, Barry, was pleased his 37-year-old sister had found who she was looking for.

"I was extraordinarily happy for my sister. ...It appeared that she found her true love. And if she was happy, I was happy," Barry Bertolet told "48 Hours" correspondent Peter Van Sant. "She experimented with Christian Matchmakers. ...And she met this guy named Harold Henthorn. ... Her comments were that he was very kind, he was very romantic, he was very smart."

Toni and Harold Henthorn

Toni's first marriage ended in divorce. Henthorn, a widower, lost his first wife, Lynn, several years earlier.

"What did you know about Harold's first wife, Lynn?" Van Sant asked Barry Bertolet.

"When we had asked Harold about that, the only response that we had was that she died in a car accident," he replied.

Bertolet's wife, Paula, not wanting to upset Harold, didn't want to pry.

"I thought it was just a bad car wreck and she died," she said. "So we didn't wanna ask him to elaborate. We just took it for face value."

Toni's parents, Bob and Yvonne, had a good feeling when they first met Harold.
