A woman has vanished in Aruba. I'm sure the authorities will be on this missing case. A suspect is in custody, an American too. He told a fishy story about snorkeling with the woman, yet she did not like snorkeling.

Suspect held in search for American woman in Aruba

Authorities in Aruba are holding a suspect in connection with the disappearance of an American woman there, the prosecutor's office said Tuesday.

Robyn Gardner, 35, of Maryland, was last seen August 2 near Baby Beach on the western tip of the island, said Ann Angela, spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office.

Angela said her office could only identify the suspect publicly by his initials: GVG. "He is suspected of involvement in the disappearance of Miss Gardner," Angela said, adding that the man is a 50-year-old U.S. citizen.

The prosecutor's office released a statement later Tuesday that provided more detail. GVG told authorities that he had been snorkeling with Gardner behind Nanki Country Club when he signaled to her to swim back, the statement read. When the man reached the beach, the woman was nowhere to be found, he allegedly told them.

"The statements made by the traveling companion led to such questions that on Friday, August 5, 2011 it was decided to detain him for further questioning on the possible drowning of the woman," the prosecutor's office said in the statement, adding that police are investigating the case.

Document: Aruba cops quizzed Giordano on finances, insurance
From Martin Savidge and Tristan Smith,
CNN
August 19, 2011 5:57 a.m. EDT

Snip
Police on Aruba raised questions about Gary Giordano's finances early in their investigation of the disappearance of his companion, Robyn Gardner, according to an interview transcript obtained by CNN.

Giordano, who is now being held by police on the Dutch Caribbean island, talked with investigators shortly before he was taken into custody August 5. In the transcript, obtained exclusively by CNN, police asked Giordano about his debts and child-support obligations, business income and the travel insurance policies he purchased for Gardner and himself before they flew to Aruba on July 31.

On Thursday, Aruba Solicitor General Taco Stein said that both Giordano and Gardner had their own travel insurance policies worth $1.5 million each. Giordano's mother is the beneficiary on his policy, Stein said, and authorities have not said who is the beneficiary on Gardner's policy.

As part of the probe, authorities got a hold of a camera that Giordano had been using while in Aruba with Gardner. Based on his own conversations with Aruban law enforcement officials, Stein described the photos found on Giordano's camera as "explicit."

Gary Giordano Getting Out Of Aruba Jail But Still Suspect
November 29, 2011
HUff Crime

Snip
S. businessman Gary Giordano is getting out of jail Tuesday but he isn't in the clear. Investigators still consider him a suspect in the presumed death of his travel companion – a case seemingly bedeviled by the same lack of evidence that doomed the investigation into the disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway.

Giordano was to be released by Tuesday evening on the order of a judge, who ruled authorities had failed to justify continuing to hold him nearly four months since his companion, Robyn Gardner, vanished during their five-day excursion to the Dutch Caribbean island.

The prosecution appealed the order but a hearing won't be held until Wednesday. By that time, Giordano, a 50-year-old from Gaithersburg, Maryland, is expected to either be back in the United States or en route, Solicitor General Taco Stein said.
