Hi Rainbow! Thanks for that post. I am pasting the whole of Peace Patriot's post as I find it extremely interesting - PP certainly seems correct when s/he claims to have been following Chandra's case closly at the time.

The initial investigation was seriously botched. And one of the ways it was botched was that neither the FBI nor the DC police ever questioned Dick Cheney or his aides about the meeting he had with Gary Condit on the very day that Chandra Levy disappeared, and during her very disappearance hours. (12:00 noon, May 1, 2001.) The DC media were also completely uninterested in this meeting and never asked questions about it. Two days later, on May 3, Condit was one of only 10 Democrats who voted for Bush/Cheney's first tax cut for the rich, in a very controversial, close vote. (Condit was leader of the "Blue Dogs" and a favorite at the Bush White House.) But I think Cheney's interest in Condit went beyond that and other votes. Condit sat on the highly important House intelligence committee, privy to many secrets, during the purge of the Clinton FBI that was going on that summer, simultaneously with the media's obsession with the sleazier aspects of the Condit/Levy story. Mueller was brought in to head the FBI at the end of that summer of hearings (many of them closed door).

Two other things were also occurring, with regard to the FBI. Coleen Rowley's request for a FISA warrant (generally routinely granted) to get into Zacharias Moussaoui's computer* was denied by the DC-FBI, in late summer, and, around the same time, John O'Neil (who was hot on the 9/11 money trail in Yemen) was drummed out of the FBI, on a flimsy excuse. He took a security job at the WTC and died there on 9/11.

Levy apparently wanted Condit to leave his wife and marry her, and she wanted him to get her a job at the FBI. She was working as an intern that summer for the federal Bureau of Prisons. Her internship was abruptly canceled early, two weeks before her disappearance, with a lame excuse. There was no follow-up by the media on the lame excuse (like, who was putting the pressure on?) This was among a series of irregularities, oddities and failures that characterized the investigation all summer--whether by the FBI/DC police or supposed investigative reporters of the corpo/fascist press. I certainly had the strong feeing that someone was interfering with that investigation.

The failure of anyone--including reporters--to ask Cheney or his aides about that meeting with Condit, not even to verify that it took place, concluded, three months after Levy's disappearance (and two months after Condit had released his schedule for May 1, which revealed his meeting with Cheney), with Cheney's aides** planting Cheney's version of the meeting in Newsweek (short meeting, about 20 minutes, two aides present, routine political). I was following the Condit news story closely that summer, and when Cheney planted his version of the meeting in Newsweek, I realized how useless and corrupt the DC media had become. I had early warning of the flood of lies and coverups that the media would be complicit in, shortly, with the war on Iraq and everything else that has happened since.

All summer the DC police said that Levy disappeared mid-morning. Late in the summer, they suddenly announced that, no, the FBI Lab had discovered (they had had her computer for two months) that she had used her computer later (to search areas of Rock Creek Park on Mapquest), and they changed her disappearance hours to early afternoon (coinciding with Condit's meeting with Cheney). They then sent a parade of recruits on a high-profile, second search of Rock Creek Park, with photos in the newspapers. They found nothing. Was this change in her disappearance hours to provide Cheney with enough time to concoct his version of the meeting with Condit during those critical hours?

Levy's body was found a year after her disappearance, not far off the path where the recruits had searched twice. This was after 9/11, and barely noted in the media.

I smelled a rat about that investigation, and the smell will not go away. I've read about this poor El Salvadoran immigrant who is apparently going to be charged with her murder, eight years later. I think it is a coverup.

    ---------

*(When that computer [Zacharias Moussaoui's] was finally opened, after 9/11, they found Nicholas Berg's name and email password in it, according to Berg's father. The FBI questioned Nick Berg about it, and went away apparently satisfied with his explanation that he had permitted Mousaoui, a complete stranger, to use his computer on a bus, going to class. Nicholas was later permitted to enter Iraq as a communications contractor, and to freely go about Baghdad looking for work. He was picked up and held for 10 days by "U.S. authorities," in May 2004, then released onto the streets in the middle of the Fallujah uprising, where he was apparently kidnapped and beheaded on the infamous tape.)

**(Cheney's aides told Newsweek that no one had ever questioned Cheney or his aides about the meeting.)

This excerpt is from the following article. No need to read the whole thing, I've quoted the pertinent part.

http://www.jaxobserver.com/2011/01/14/at-87-bob-barker-becomes-oxford-centre-honorary-fellow/

"INDUSTRY BITS: Capitol Filmworks is getting ready to go into production with its Chandra Levy TV movie, to shoot in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. Casting has been under way for the doomed Washington intern, for Gary Condit, the congressman whose relationship with her was under scrutiny after her disappearance (though cleared of any involvement, the cloud of suspicion that had surrounded him cost him re-election), and for her parents. Undocumented Salvadoran immigrant Ingmar Guandique was convicted of Levy’s slaying in November. We hear that a Levy docu-reality series is also in the works."

More details:
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2011/01/14/106840/coming-attraction-the-chandra.html

I suppose this was bound to happen. Should provide a nice wrap-up for the whole affair and give everyone a sense of justice well done. Several interesting issues to explore like police incompetence, immigration, and the justice system. I'll be morbidly interested.

They're going to do a job on "Smith". Apparently a hybrid of Durant (a Caucasian, and the fall guy for the coverup), and the public perception of Chief Ramsey, a black, now with Philly, who doesn't come across as too bright, especially in contrast to someone like Asst. Chief Gainer, also black, now with Capitol Police, who was as far as I can tell the only competent law enforcement involved in this investigation (and amply rewarded for the successful coverup for Congress as head of Capitol Police, in my opinion). That especially includes the FBI involved.

So they make the bumbling detective black for some reason, even though most of the DC detectives involved from what I could tell including from the trial testimony were white, especially that vile idiot in charge of the investigation who collaborated with the Washington Post lies in that video.

No, if you cast an incompetent DC detective, he should look like the actual Caucasian idiots who covered this up for the Justice Department, not pawn it on a stereotyped black person.

By the way, it appears from lack of anything else on it on Google that Capitol Filmworks is a newly formed company for the Chandra Levy Project.

While I think it's fairly common to form production companies for specific projects for financial distribution reasons, I believe they are covering their bases (and other things) by forming this company because they figure Condit will sue them whether there's any justification or not.

He hasn't had any justification the last few times his lawsuits, and lawyers, were thrown out of court, and I doubt he's learned his lesson from that.

He's probably pretty desperate to sue someone by now.

They being the producers of the show, I take it. I'll be interested in whether Ann Marie Smith makes the final cut. She would be pretty easy to leave out and that would considerably simplify the story for their viewers. I don't remember her ever being mentioned in the trial, of course she had never met the convicted perpetrator.

I don't know. Three to four weeks shooting doesn't allow for much depth. I hope it isn't another looping video thing.

Maybe Sal will make a better juror than Ingmar Guandique's: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1347894/Jury-duty-cat-Sal-Cat-summoned-service-US-court-rules-attend.html

Newest information on the Chandra Levy TV show indicates that it is being timed to coincide with the anniversary of the date of her death. More accurately, shouldn't that be date of disappearance? It appears the history has been written.

Isn't it strange that the general public, etc., doesn't seem to notice that there is a difference between the date and time of Chandra's disappearance and the date and time of her murder?

Man sentenced in Chandra Levy killing appeals his conviction

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Michael Doyle WASHINGTON — The man sentenced to 60 years in prison for killing one-time intern Chandra Levy is now appealing his conviction with the help of a Harvard Law School graduate.

In new filings, attorneys for illegal Salvadoran immigrant Ingmar Guandique say he deserves a new trial. Though it could be a long shot, the appeal stretches out the final, final resolution of a long-running criminal case now about to enter its second decade.

The challenge filed with the District of Columbia Court of Appeals also continues a theme of zealous advocacy by Guandique's publicly funded attorneys.

"There should be a new trial," defense attorney Santha Sonenberg told D.C. Superior Court Judge Gerald I. Fisher in a foreshadowing moment in February.

Fisher oversaw last November's trial, in which a jury concluded Guandique killed the 24-year-old Levy on May 1, 2001. At the time, Levy was preparing to travel to Modesto, Calif., where her parents Robert and Susan still live.

Sonenberg and her colleague, Maria Hawilo, had previously petitioned Fisher for a new trial, citing the kinds of issues that may now confront the appellate court. The Public Defender Service attorneys contend that a federal prosecutor went too far in her closing arguments, and that jurors improperly shared notes with each other.

"The government's closing argument was replete with appeals to the jury's emotions, and references to facts not in evidence," Sonenberg and Hawilo declared in an earlier post-trial filing.

Fisher acknowledged that there were "portions" of Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda Haines' closing argument that may have crossed a line, but he rejected the claim that a new trial was required.

"I don't think this was a weak case," Fisher said, shortly before handing down Guandique's sentence. "There was pretty compelling evidence…that was highly persuasive."

The formal notice of appeal was quietly filed Feb. 25. It was signed by James Klein, a Harvard College and Harvard Law School graduate who heads the Public Defenders Service's appellate division. The preliminary appeal documents publicly accessible Tuesday were limited to background material from the original trial.

Glad to see the appeal being pursued, Rainbow. Persuasive evidence? The only evidence was that some other man's DNA was on Chandra's tights.

Thst is persuausion enough to free convicts in any other case. This is a government prosecution railroading of an illegal immigrant for a political murder of an inconvenient Washington intern.
