Condit and his wife... brings to mind this interesting shopping trip:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,28474,00.html

Excerpt:
Sunday, April 29

Morning: Rep. Condit has brunch with his wife, and they go shopping in the Adams Morgan neighborhood where he keeps his Washington, D.C., residence.

Noon and thereafter: The Condits go to his office. They leave the office and take the subway to an Italian grocery in the Dupont Circle neighborhood, where they buy groceries. They go home and cook dinner.

end excerpt

Condit and his wife shop in his Adams Morgan neighborhood then later take the subway to shop some more in the Dupont Circle neighborhood.

Thanks, Skipper - such a heart-warming image of that couple... Hard to say whether Carolyn has just been a victim in denial or is there a harsher side to her...?

What do you think of Barrett?

Skipper, do you remember Barrett ever saying anything like this in the past - that he knew early on Condit wasn't involved in the disappearance?

What do I think of Barrett?

I think that Barrett as well as Brad Garrett were brought into the case for damage control. IOW, to turn the spotlight away from the Condit family.

911 happened and helped all concerned as to the focus of the case and saved them the bother.

In the article below, Barrett faults Ramsey and Gainer for holding news conferences that "fueled the media frenzy". If the facts were known, I would bet that Ramsey and Gainer would have been happy to avoid news conferences altogether. It was not those 2 men that kept the focus on Condit, it was where the investigation took them. They were just updating the public that was demanding answers at that time.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/metro/specials/chandra/epilogue_1.html

Fair use excerpt:

Jack Barrett, former D.C. chief of detectives, said the focus on Condit hurt the investigation. He also faulted his superiors - then-Chief Charles H. Ramsey and his second-in-command, Terrance W. Gainer - for their constant news conferences that helped fuel the media frenzy.

"They were creating enormous amounts of pressure," said Barrett, who retired from the department and is now a senior analyst for Centra Technology, an intelligence support firm in Arlington County. "You can't run an investigation and answer questions that the media is asking. I wanted to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

No, I don't remember Barrett saying that he knew early on that Condit was not involved in Chandra's disappearance.

What I just re-read is not true:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/metro/specials/chandra/epilogue_1.html

Excerpt:

A spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office said the two-month delay in focusing on Guandique from July 2001 to September 2001 occurred in part because investigators and prosecutors did not make the link between Chandra's disappearance and Rock Creek Park.

end

Fact is, they were combing Rock Creek Park early on. I recall the Cadets walking shoulder to shoulder in that Park. It was on the news daily. That was June and/or July 2001. Now they are saying they didn't make the link between Chandra's disappearance and Rock Creek Park?

Curious, when that is known to be an area where bodies are dumped in DC. I would bet that would be the first place that LE would look in DC, as a matter of course.

Yeah, Skipper - that makes sense. Four months into the Chandra investigation takes you right to 9/11, too! So did Barrett discover something then to exonerate Condit, or (more likely) did the need to find such evaporate...

Oops - not 4 months - 4 to 6 weeks.

Do you think there's anything to the idea of Carolyn being involved in Chandra's disappearance?

I have thoughts on the subject, due to circumstances that prevailed in the time frame of the disappearance, but hesitate to post about those thoughts at this time. RD has made a good case in his book that I find believable. He incorporates all the known facts that are related to the family, IMO.

It's like all the other missing person cases that you read about online. The investigation targets the last person to see the missing person, then moves on to add those close to the victim. A spouse, or boyfriend/girlfriend, looking for potential motive. Next, those close to the victim are interviewed and alibi's are established for the time frame of the person that has gone missing.

In the case of Kyron Horman, for instance, the Stepmother is the last known person to see Kyron. As well, her
alibi for the time-frame when he went missing is flawed. She stated where she was that morning and it turns out that her cell phone pinged elsewhere. Now, 5 months later, some of her friends have come forward and offered up motive in the form of emails in her words stating that she hated Kyron. "Severe hatred" was how it was stated.

The bio-mother additionally stated that the emails indicate that Terri would be capable of "...hurting him in the worst possible way...". ***

As to her means- the woman was a professional body builder and bragged to others to include a man that she was exchanging Sexting text messages with, that she was stronger than most men.

So what components equal the three aspects of a crime ? Motive, means and opportunity.

In the case of Kyron Horman, authorities believe they have found all three components in his stepmother, Terri Horman.

Likewise in the case of Chandra Levy, there are those with all three aspects and one is not Guandique.

I also agree with Skipper's and all of your opinions, regarding Barrett and Garrett.

Detective Lawrence Kennedy, D.C. homicide detective, seemed to have a completely different take on the case. From the first time, the potential witness I keep mentioning spoke with Detective Kennedy in Spring/Summer 2001 (and his/her story was fully documented at the time), until approximately 5 years later, when he retired, he was still interested in evidence that connected someone(s) other than Mr. Guandique to the case.

As a matter-of-fact, the potential witness sent a photograph to him c/o the FBI lab in Quantico, which is the same lab the D.C. police were using, that relates to the Jim Robinson scenario. This was 4-5 years into the case, when the witness (who had been in contact with Mr. Kennedy since Spring/Summer 2001 until approx. 2005) realized he/she had such a photo.

I agree with all the above opinions too so no need to re-write what already is written.

thanks all, what a great job.

Don't like Barrett at all.

Nice analogy using Kyron case skipper. The three points are exactly what one is looking for.
Let us not forget this, the motive, means and opportunity.

As deliberations continue, I just want to reiterate that a D.C. homicide detective stated on the phone to a potential witness in the original investigation, when the witness asked the detective (some time close to the time that Chandra's remains were discovered) if Mr. Guandique, the jogger-attacker, could have been responsible for Chandra's murder,

the D.C. homicide detective told the witness that Mr. Guandique was completely excluded as a suspect, as he was in a police-verified location at the "real" time of the murder.

Thank you for that information, Rainbow! I've read that elsewhere- most likely from you or your source? You have to wonder if the prosecutors had read that somewhere along the line?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In answer to the question about whether the prosecution knows about the opinions expressed by the D.C. homicide detective at the time, police, FBI, Levy investigators, and Levy attorneys all received updates about any information the potential witness had through the years.

The potential witness also received the impression from one of the Levy investigators that the witness was in telephone contact with during the same period of time, that the Levy investigators supported the same theory as the D.C. homicide detective, with regard to the circumstances surrounding the murder of Chandra Levy.
