Goz, I believe either you or Jane first posted an article that Maura was missing , and I did a search and found a newsarticle regarding such which I believe was more than a week later, as I read the article I had a vision in which I saw her being abducted by 2 men, therefore my impressions in her disappearance have always been clouded by this vision, and therefore I have never believe that she made this phone call as she was not alibe, however this is purely speculative on my part and therefore not based in reality.

Billy received this phone call while he was being checked through security at the airport near noontime, and the call went to voice message, the call consisted of someone moaning Billy thought that this was Maura, the police were unimpressed by the call, however the police have been anything but stellar in this investigation therefore the verdict is still out whether this was Maura on the phone or not. Sharon Billy's mother comments on the call on Maura's forum search under the author Sharon on her forum www.mauramurraymissing.com.

The call originated from a prepaid Red Cross card, and without the authorization code the call could not be traced. The call was not made from Maura's phone as it did not appear on the bill. It is possible that Maura climbed to higher ground to get cell phone coverage as there was no coverage in the Haverhill area at the time, however it was 12 degrees and dark and basically wilderness. However there was a store which was opened that was a short distance away, and therefore why put yourself in peril by climbing a mountain in the wilderness in the pitch or night. Makes no sense. Maura was a brillant young woman and it just doesn't make sense that she would wonder off into the wilderness. It is possible that she went to a payphone and made the call, however if she was only moaning one would think that someone would have come to her rescue. She went missing on Monday night so by Wed. it seems unlikely that she made this call. I thought perhaps she might have gotten the phone card from the Red Cross because she was in Nursing school, or that she found a cabing with a phone and the card was there for anyone in an emergency, however being very bright she would have left some evidence of being there. It is possible that she had a head injury as the windshield was cracked, and therefore might not have been herself so to speak but then if she is that confused how does she make the call and leave no evidence. Also, why would she not dial 911. Confusing.

Goz I have been timed out 3 times while trying to post this message therefore must go before I'm timed out again. How frustrating, hate when that happens, take care,
Kate

I found this website after seeing the story of Maura on the cable show 'Disappeared'. I have read a lot of what people have posted and theories etc...
One thing I didn't see written about was if you go back to the accident with her fathers car...

Did she react the same way, or different in each accident case.

Comparing the two, and maybe compairing her reaction(s) in both of the car crashes could give some insight to her state of mind in both cases (especially the second one). Were her reactions the same or different?

In other words, side by side how did she handle each accident situtation she found her self in? Maybe this matters, maybe it doesn't. And, this may have been looked into already, I don't know.. (did she not want to contact the police in her father's car accident, did she walk off on that accident too, was there liquor involved etc..)

I have questions regarding what I have read about the engineer/contractor guy. To be an engineer or even a contractor, I would have to think you need some kind of critical thinking. If you are a contractor you most likely more interactive with people and would know whats going on in the area you live. I cannot believe he didn't hear 'talk' going on around town. Bad news travels fast, more so in a small town.
This guy didn't do or say anything? (for weeks?) I find this extremely odd.

For all we know she could be locked up in some room and is going through stockholm syndrome with regard to her 'captor'. Its happened before. Its not as far fetched as it sounds....you never know...

I hope for both the families, they finally get some closure. I could not begin to imagine what they have been going through.

Other than this I am thinking the police could have been more detailed in the moments and hours surrounding this case.

Hi Curious, I wish peripetea (kate) were monitoring this, she posted on this for years. We've had some people come and go occasionally because sites came and went, but mo one ever seemed to be able to get much of an answer to questions like that.

I hope kate and other people knowledgeable about Maura's disappearance see your question and can offer some opinions.

welcome.

Hi Curious! If you look through this thread, as rd said, Peripeteia had lots of thoughts on this case. There is a link on page 1 of this thread to a site for Maura and I'm posting a link here to a 2008 article about Maura - still lots of unanswered questions - I wish the police would give the family what info they have, as the family has requested. Do post any thoughts or questions here as Peri does visit sometimes, or someone else may have some input. http://whitmanhansonexpress.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=751:four-years-of-frustration-for-murray-family&catid=912&Itemid=83

Hi curious, and my friends on this site who care about missing and murdered women and men.....

Curious there is not much new information regarding Maura's disappearance

I did see the show disappeared depicting Maura's disappearance, the only thing new that I noticed in the show was the appearance of Maura's phone bill, which I noticed had a few interesting things, such as a phone call on Thursday night (Friday) morning at 3:40 am. Maura had been escorted to her room after receiving a phone call while at the security desk at the U of Mass at 1240 am thereabouts because she was so upset, taken by Kay M. after 0100. Well if someone was talking to her at 3:40 that morning one would think that she would have revealed the nature of what was upsetting her. I tried to get information on the phone bill to no avail. That phone call originated from Amherst.

From this point onward Maura's life seems to spin somewhat out of control. The why is the question?

Regarding the construction worker, I did not know he was an engineer. Frankly I don't believe his story, he went to the police nearly 3 months after the fact, and alleges he did not report the person he saw 5 km. away after 8 p.m. because he thought Maura went missing the day before.

The only person who identified Maura as being the driver of the car, the school bus driver has passed away this year. The school bus driver and the construction worker lived across the street from one another. Therefore I find it incredulous that the construction worker came forward three months later to say he saw someone walking up a mountain 5 km away in the pitch of the night, elevation 800 feet heading far into the national forest of the white mountains. Also the construction guy left his work at 7p.m., it is approximately 1/2 hour to his house, and he alleges to have seen the person walking after 8 p.m. I am sorry I don't believe it.......also, two people came to his house on the 14th and 19th of Feb to be interviewed and he neglected to give this information....yadda yadda ya....

Maura seems to have been very upset about wrecking her Father's car. Although her father was not upset at her. I do not understand why Maura was heading to her father's motel at 300 on the Friday night, that seems a tad odd. Something dramatic was going on in her life that we have no knowledge of, also her family appears to be at a loss as well...

There are several odd things that happened at the second car accident, Maura allegedly puts a white towel in the tail pipe yet she has a brand new emergency equipment road safety kit in her truck, and allegedly when she got out of the car, she was seen at the trunk but did not engage the emergency road side stuff, odd. Also, Maura leaves her expensive jewelery in the truck of her car, and a change of clothing, and tooth brush and personal stuff and takes the alcohol. Strange indeed.

I have always had the feeling that it was not Maura at the back of the trunk at the scene of the accident. Just doesn't make sense.

Also Maura had never driven in the winter, her car was operating on three cylinders, and she told no one of her destination. Also, Maura had to lie to get out of Nursing classes, taking a week off of clinical that she would have to make up later. It is a very hugh deal to skip Nursing Clinicals. Also, Maura had never been on such a long drive by herself, it was winter and Maura being an inexperience driver and had an unreliable car, and the worst of it she heads out at sunset for a 2 1/2 hour drive on a road she had never traveled before, and told no one as I stated.

Too odd for me to comprehend..

The new hampshire league of private detectives hired an auto-reconstructionist, and they do not feel that the damage done to Maura's car ocurred at the Weatherbarn.

One last thing, the school bus driver gave 5 different versions of what he did after coming upon Maura's saturn on the road, and he refused to speak to Healy from the new hampshire private detectives when he went to Florida to be interviewed.

Curious, well where to go from here......haven't a clue.....

p.s. I still read all the time regarding Chandra and Grandique and other missing people here, keep up the good work you guys, I'm still with you but don't have anything to say much, believe that or not.. lol! take care one and all

I saw that NBC's Oxygen channel is switching to a true crime format. One of the new shows greenlighted is The Disappearance of: Maura Murray

From the site description:

When a young nursing student, Maura Murray, vanished in 2004 under strange circumstances, she became the first prominent disappearance of the social media age. Since then, the investigation into Murray’s case has fueled a legion of online armchair detectives, causing an endless procession of blogs, books, websites and podcasts, becoming a rabbit hole of unexplored leads, eyewitness discrepancies, missing evidence, questionable actions and strange characters. Now, in this six part docu-series, an investigative journalist, attempts to unravel one of the most complicated and mysterious cold cases of the last quarter century. With access to Murray’s family and friends, unique connections to local law enforcement, and the cooperation of the most prominent investigators on social media, she’ll attempt to find resolution once and for all.

Produced by Texas Crew Productions with David Karabinas, Eric Begley and Sonia Slutsky serving as Executive Producers.
