He truly is an evil monster, Goz, as you point out. Yet to look at him, I see someone burnt-out, not "all there", but wouldn't ever suspect the cruelty and brutality. Looks kind of harmless, but looks sure can be deceiving.

I do agree with you, he does look harmless but we can say that about many of the dudes here on our board. They look like solid citizens or some even look mousy. Looks can never account for anything.

This guy really is an animal and must have made these kids lives horrid. So sad his neice had to die to get this scum off the street. Wish his prior offenses would have kept him in jail.

He does look burnt out as you say. Maybe he was a drug user too. Wouldn't shock me in the least bit.

At his weekly news conference earlier in the day, the governor said Brooke's case warranted a serious discussion about the appropriate penalties for certain heinous crimes.

Jessica's Law, a tougher sex offender registry law and civil confinement, which would keep certain sexually violent inmates beyond their maximum prison terms should be on the table, he said. Death penalty for sexual assault on a minor with death resulting, which Douglas said a number of people are calling for, and chemical castration for violent sexual predators, also should be part of the discussion, he said.

Jessica's Law is named after a 9-year-old Florida girl who was kidnapped, raped and murdered by a convicted sex offender in 2005. It requires a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years and electronic surveillance of sex offenders who prey on children under 12.

But Douglas stopped short of calling a special session of the Legislature, saying based on previous actions on his sex offender proposals he did not have confidence that the Legislature would be effective.

I agree totally with putting into effect Jessica's law in these type of henious crimes. I do hope this slimbag gets the DP though now that it is on the table as it is a federal crime. He is one evil bastard.

Former Stepfather of Dead Vermont Girl Indicted on Child Porn Charges

SAN ANTONIO — The former stepfather of a 12-year-old Vermont girl found dead earlier this month was indicted Wednesday on child pornography charges.

A grand jury indicted Raymond Gagnon on charges of transporting child pornography in April 2007 and possessing a computer containing child pornography on July 1, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a release.

The San Antonio man is the former stepfather of Brooke Bennett, who went missing June 25 and was found a week later buried in Randolph, Vt.

Gagnon, 40, faces obstruction of justice charges in the girl's disappearance. At a July 7 hearing he did not contest his continued detention on the charges. A lawyer listed for him in court documents did not immediately return an after-hours call Wednesday.

Michael Jacques, Brooke's uncle, has been charged with her kidnapping. No one has been charged in her death.
