Vermont Police Release Surveillance Tape in Case of Missing 12-Year-Old Girl, FBI Joins Search
Friday, June 27, 2008

SNIP
As the FBI joined the search for a missing 12-year-old Vermont girl, state police on Friday released a surveillance video believed to show footage of one of the last glimses of Brooke Bennett before her disappearance.

State troopers had previously refrained from publicizing the footage from a security camera inside the Cumberland Farms store, where Brooke said she was meeting a female friend.

The tape shows the girl and her uncle walk into the shop, go to the register to buy something and then leave, each going in separate directions, with Brooke apparently walking away by herself.

SNIP
A major focus of the investigation was centered on her online activities.

"As we all know, warnings have gone out countless times, in this world that we live in today, there are folks that visit places, social networking spaces such as MySpace, whose intentions are not good. And they come from far away," said Baker.

Police want to hear from anyone who was in Randolph on Wednesday between 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m., even if they don't think they saw anything, Baker said.

The girl was reported missing around 9 p.m. Wednesday after her uncle dropped her off at a convenience store about 12 hours earlier in Randolph, where she'd said she was going to meet a girlfriend to visit the friend's sick relative in the hospital.

But police believe that Brooke fibbed and may have been bound for a meeting with an unknown person whom she'd been communicating with on the social networking site MySpace.com.

Her dad asked for anyone with information about Brooke to come forward.

Anyone with information about Brooke's whereabouts is asked to call the state police at 802-234-9933

And there's breaking news in Vermont tonight--an intense search. 12-year-old Brooke Bennett is missing. Could Brooke have been communicating with someone online who knows where she is?

Now, here's what we know. Yesterday morning at 9:00 a.m. Brooke is dropped off at a convenience store in Randolph, Vermont. And--that's it. She has not been seen since.

Earlier police in Vermont spoke about the case.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: During the early morning hours of today, a family member of Miss Bennett located some items off Vermont route 65 in the Brookfield, Vermont, area. One of these items was similar to an item that Ms. Bennett was last seen wearing.

Members of the Orange County sheriff's department, troopers from the Royalton office, state police detectives from throughout the state came to the scene to search the area for Miss Bennett and, also, process the scene where the items were found.

Members of the Vermont state police search and rescue team also responded to the area and searched the immediate and surrounding area in an attempt to find Miss Bennett. So far those results have been negative.

Through this investigation it was learned that Miss Bennett was communicating with an unknown individual online. Members of the Vermont state police computers crime unit are currently examining the computer used by Miss Bennett in an attempt to isolate and identify when she was speaking with the person online prior to her being reported missing.

It scares me to think Brooks Uncle is a SO. I wonder if it will play a role in her going missing? To date, LE says it does not. He should be looked at with a fine tooth comb.

Let us hope they find this girl.

Police Arrest Missing Girl's Uncle

State Police have arrested the last person to be seen with missing 12-year-old, Brooke Bennett.

Police say 42-year-old Michael Jacques is being held at the Southern State Correctional Facility, in Springfield, Sunday night, on sexual assault charges unrelated to Bennett's case. Jacques, who is Bennett's uncle, is being charged with aggravated sexual assault of a minor. Police uncovered evidence linking him to the alleged crime while investigating Bennett's disappearance.

Jacques is a registered sex offender; he was arrested and convicted of kidnapping and sexual assault in 1993. Police say that the new charges are not connected in any way to Bennett or her disappearance. Police do say, however, that the minor involved in the new charges is from Randolph.

Jacques and Bennett were seen on surveillance video at the Cumberland Farms convenience store in Randolph, on Wednesday morning. Bennett disappeared a short time later.

All-Out Search For Missing Vermont Child Brook Bennett
Vermont State Police say 12-year-old Brook Bennett was supposed to meet a friend at a Randolph, Vt. convenience store, and then go to visit a sick relative at the hospital on June 26, 2008.

But after Brooke Bennett was dropped off at the store by her uncle and cousin, she never made it to the hospital, and hasn't been seen since.

Surveillance video from that day shows Brooke walking away from the store by herself towards the town of Randoph. When a family member in Brookefield found items of her clothing near her uncle's home -- the house where she was supposed to spend the night -- it prompted an intensive search by police dogs and helicopters.

The investigation led by Vermont State Police has uncovered that MySpace, a popular social networking site, may have had something to do with her disappearance. After analyzing her computer, authorities learned that Brooke had been in contact with someone on the site days before she went missing. Investigators have not yet released the identity of that person.

Brooke's parents say they took away her privileges to use the site because of issues with respect. However, as they later found out, Brooke had secretly set up a new account on a different computer.

Vermont State Police will continue analyzing the computer for further information that could tell them where Brooke may have gone and the person she is with.

Missing Girl's Uncle Named 'Person of Interest' in Her Disappearance
Monday, June 30, 2008
Associated Press

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,373903,00.html

CHELSEA, Vt. — A probe into the disappearance of a 12-year-old girl zeroed in Monday on her uncle's alleged involvement in a child sex ring, with police searching his home while he was being arraigned on sex charges in a case authorities said was unrelated to the missing girl.

Michael Jacques, 42, of Randolph, a registered sex offender who was one of the last people to see Brooke Bennett before she vanished, pleaded not guilty to aggravated sexual assault and was being held on $250,000 bail.

In all, about 50 investigators from the State Police, FBI and other agencies are working the case, Baker said.

Jacques, who is married to the sister of Bennett's mother, dropped Bennett off at a Cumberland Farms convenience store in Randolph on Wednesday after she told family members she was going to meet a friend and visit a relative of the friend's in the hospital.

Police believe that was a lie, and that Bennett may have been bound for a meeting with an unknown individual she had been communicating with through the Internet. On Friday, Baker said the MySpace communications were the main focus of the probe.

Surveillance video from the store showed Bennett and Jacques leave the store and go in separate directions.

On Monday, Baker said this: "As a result of information developed late Saturday and early Sunday, the focus of our investigation shifted drastically." He said it was during the weekend that the computer forensics probe "eliminated the whole world out there and narrowed our focus."

Bennett, who just finished seventh grade at Randolph Union High School, has not been seen since. She is the subject of Vermont's first-ever Amber Alert, which was issued Friday.

In court Monday, a pallid Jacques — handcuffed and shackled at the waist — entered a not guilty plea through public defender L. Brooke Dingledine, who persuaded Judge Theresa DiMauro to grant bail over the objections of Porter.

Jacques has 1993 convictions for kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault and there is "a threat of prejudicial violence to this particular juvenile complainant," said Porter, in arguing for no bail. "Her personal safety was threatened."

He also noted the serious nature of the crime, which could lead to a life prison term, and said Jacques had violated his probation.

"There's no condition or series of conditions that could guarantee the safety of the juvenile complainant in this case," said Porter.

Comments:
This article is stating the facts both ways. She may be a victim of her uncle or still may be associated with someone from MySpace. Let us hope it works out for the best but time has now passed.
The article shows what a scum the Uncle really is and may have had a sex ring.

I hope they put the Brooke's uncle away for life. He is one of the biggest slimebags I have ever read about. He was running a sex ring and taking young girls and having them sleep with older men. I wonder if he killed Brook or her stepdad did. The uncle is now a Person of Interest. Either way this child has been gone too long and we are lucky if she is found.

Feds Say Uncle of Missing Vermont Girl Took Her Home for Initiation Into Sex Ring
Wednesday, July 02, 2008
Fox News/ Assoc. Press

RANDOLPH, Vt. — A missing Vermont girl's uncle brought her home to initiate her into a sex ring, federal officials claim in court papers.

In an affidavit, officials contend a teenage girl admitted helping Michael Jacques, Brooke Bennett's uncle, drop off the 12-year-old at a store on June 25, then pick her up and take her to his Randolph home for initiation into a child sex ring. Brooke has not been seen since.

The 14-year-old, reportedly related to Jacques, told agents she, herself, had been having sex with Jacques, 42, since she was 9 as part of a sex ring called Breckinridge, according to the U.S. District Court affidavit. She said she was told Brooke was going to be brought into the ring that day.

Brooke's former stepfather was expected in court Wednesday to face federal charges that he destroyed evidence in connection with the search for Brooke.[/b]

State police say Jacques is a "person of interest" in Brooke's disappearance.

Hi Goz and everyone. Sadly, little Brooke's remains have been found. Her mother allowed Brooke to have contact with her sex offender uncle and he conspired with Brooke's ex-stepfather to make it look as though Brooke had been planning to run away to Texas - meanwhile, she was with her uncle who apparently molested and killed her. What a sad thing for a young girl to be in such a sick, sick, evil family. It's too sad. People like that don't deserve to have beautiful children anywhere near them, let alone in their care.

I am horrfied for this poor little girl. May she rest in peace and somewhere may there be a better life for her. May justice destroy the lives of those that have harmed this innocent child.

This story just brings tears to my eyes. I can't even begin to express what I feel, what this innocent girl must have lived through all these years. How very sad. These 2 sick SO's deserve the DP in my opinion. This case is one that is tailored made for it.

Brooke, sorry the world let you down. May there be a heaven for special children like you.

God Bless

Vermont doesn't have the death penalty, but this case could be federal, which would give the possibility of the death penalty (I heard on Nancy Grace earlier tonight).

Sorry to hear Vermont doesn't have the DP but maybe as you said, it could be federal. These two pigs deserve a harsh penalty. As I said, and you did, this poor little girl had no chance in life surrounded by this filth.

It's really horrid such evil must exist. I hope they find all the girls involved with these two men and help them to re-enter society and cope with what has happened to them.

Uncle Could Face Death on Kidnapping Charges in Case of Dead Vermont Girl
Thursday, July 03, 2008
Fox News and Assoc. Press

The uncle of a young Vermont girl found dead could face the death penalty on federal kidnapping charges connected with the case, prosecutors said Thursday.

U.S. Attorney Thomas Anderson said Michael Jacques will be charged with kidnapping in connection with the death of his niece, 12-year-old Brooke Bennett.

I hope he gets the DP or suffers all his life. This is where Jessica's Law comes into play. We need to keep these SO and creeps off the street. He should never have been around children to begin with.

This is about the saddest story that I've read. How heartbreaking for that little girl and her family. I can't think of anything vile enough- (that is printable here) to say about the step father and the uncle.

To think that these people are walking around with the rest of society.

Unreal.

I appreciate your posting this Goz. It's an eye opener. We have to teach our kids to trust no one.

Prosecutor: Vermont Girl's Death Was Homicide; Uncle Held Without Bail
Monday, July 07, 2008

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,377281,00.html

BURLINGTON, Vt. — A 12-year-old girl found dead last week in a shallow grave near her uncle's home was killed, a federal prosecutor said Monday at an initial appearance for the uncle on charges of kidnapping the girl.

Michael Jacques, who is accused of abducting his niece, Brooke Bennett, was ordered held until his trial on a federal kidnapping charge. His attorney, Michael Desautels, did not ask U.S. Magistrate-Judge Jerome Niedermeier to release Jacques.

"(Jacques) has a very serious criminal history demonstrating an extreme danger to the community," Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Nolan said.

Comment: It appears they will be going for the DP in this case and I really hope so because this evil monster deserves it. Hope the stepfather is charged heavily too.
