A man has been arrested for Lauren's disappearance but her body has not been found. Let us pray she may still be alive and she is found. I do not know why they called the search off so soon.

BETHANY — A man who may have information about a missing pregnant woman was arrested Wednesday night.
Shortly after a press conference announcing a warrant for his arrest, Eric K. Phan, 20, was arrested at his attorney’s office, Bethany Police Chief Neal Troutman said.

Phan was arrested on a first-degree murder complaint and is being held without bail, Troutman said.

Phan will remain in Bethany police custody until he decides whether or not to cooperate, and will then be transferred to the Oklahoma County jail, Troutman said.

An arrest warrant for Phan was issued in connection with the disappearance of Lauren Barnes. While Barnes’ body has not been found, Bethany police obtained the warrant on a murder complaint based on information received during the investigation. Additional tips led to his arrest, Troutman said.

Phan’s car, also at his attorney’s office, was impounded, Troutman added.

Lauren Barnes, 20, has been missing since Friday night. Family members said Barnes, who is five months pregnant, told her family that night she was going to Eldon Lyon Park to meet the father of the baby, police said.

Her car was found at the park, 7500 NW 36, Sunday afternoon, but family members have not heard from her since Friday.

Police talked to Phan Sunday. Phan admits he went to the park to meet Barnes to talk about her pregnancy, Troutman said. Phan also told police he did not think he was the father of the baby. He said he went to the park but didn't see Barnes and left, Troutman said.

Any information Phan gave to police after surrendering was not immediately available Wednesday night.

Police Return To Wildlife Refuge On Anonymous Tip
Authorities Looking For Lauren Barnes, 20

UPDATED: 11:01 pm CST November 29, 2007

BETHANY, Okla. -- Bethany police have returned to a wildlife refuge in Oklahoma City, where they believe the body of a missing pregnant woman might be located.

Police said they received an anonymous tip on Thursday afternoon that a body -- possibly that of 20-year-old Lauren Barnes -- is located at the refuge. Officers set up a crime scene but said that because of darkness, they will wait until Friday morning to continue their search, citing a desire not to trample over possible evidence.

Eric Phan, 20, who turned himself in on Wednesday night, is accused of killing Barnes, who has been missing since Friday. Bethany police believe this case is a homicide.

May Lauren and her baby rest in peace. It's a shame this had to happen again to a pregnant woman. I'm glad they made an arrest. I hope he is charged with two counts of murder!

Body of Missing Pregnant Woman Found Buried in Wildlife Refuge
Friday, November 30, 2007

BETHANY, Okla. — Police found the body of a missing pregnant woman Friday buried in a wildlife refuge after an anonymous tip led them to her location.

The body of Lauren Barnes, 20, of Bethany, Okla., was found buried in a heavily wooded area within the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge.

"She was buried about 3-feet deep and covered up in debris and leaves and dirt," Bethany Police Chief Neal Troutman said at a news conference. "So it wasn't very visible. It would have been hard to find."

There didn't appear to be any trauma to the woman's face or body, and investigators didn't think a weapon was involved in her death, Troutman said.

The young woman, who was five months pregnant, hadn't been seen since Nov. 23, when she told her family she was going to meet the father of her baby.

Earlier this week, police arrested Eric Phan, 20, on a first-degree murder complaint in connection with Barnes' disappearance. He remained in the Oklahoma County jail.

"It's not up to me, probably, to decide as to if we're going to file two counts of murder on him based on the fact that she was five months pregnant," Troutman said.

Lauren was afraid of her ex which seems to be a common feeling among the women on this board. As noted. he killed her most likely because she was pregnant.

At least they found Lauren's body so the family can move on. It was stated it was buried deep so a confession was probably the only way it was able to be located.

Even though all the men that kill their gf's, ex's and wifes appear to be so controlling, all of them should have/ needed to take a class in self control. We need to see a drop in the rate of murdered women. Communication and coping skills need to be taught at an early age to our young men and woman.

May Lauren and child rest in peace.

Report: Dead Pregnant Woman Texted Sis She Was Afraid of Baby's Father

BETHANY, Okla. — A pregnant woman found dead in Oklahoma Friday texted her sister that she was afraid the father of her baby would "blow up" because she'd told his girlfriend she was pregnant, NewsOK.com reports.

Lauren Barnes, 20, of Bethany, Okla., sent the text message at 8:34 p.m. Nov. 23 as she waited near a park for Eric Phan — the man police are holding on a murder complaint in connection with the case — according to a court affidavit, NewsOK.com.

An anonymous tip led police to Barnes' shallow grave in Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge on Friday near where she disappeared. She was five months pregnant.

"She was buried about 3-feet deep and covered up in debris and leaves and dirt," Bethany Police Chief Neal Troutman said at a news conference. "So it wasn't very visible. It would have been hard to find."

A state medical examiner said Barnes died of asphyxiation, KOCO.com reports.

Phan confessed to his best friend that he had choked Barnes and thought he broke her neck, NewsOK.com quoted the affidavit — filed late Friday — as saying.
