I would think it takes someone familiar with the area to choose a well to hide their murder victim. Not that they have to spent much time on the property, but I think they'd in general have to be pretty familiar with it, for example knowing where the well is and that it's abandoned, etc.

It's sad when bodies are found and it just adds to the crimes to be solved.

Or they'd have to either:

1) just had the body in the car and been driving, saw the abandoned buildings, and happened to notice the cistern next to one while getting ready to dump the body; or,

2) went scouting ahead of time, for abandoned buildings, found one with a cistern, and so....; or

3) There's not a lot out there, and it's about an hour and a half away from Lubbock, so, who knows? The news report seems to indicate that someone involved in another investigation ponied up the information. And that the body had been there for a while. I guess it could have been one of RR's earlier victims, if he's a serial. Or, it could be just some other poor schmuck whom someone decided to finish off.

They did say it was a small framed individual. I guess the skeleton will go to Dallas and they'll try to figure out who that poor soul is, as well.

How very sad. For them, and for their family.

The remains were sent to Lubbock. According to the sheriff of Kent Co., it is not Jo or Jen, and they do have a suspect. He states they do have more information, which he cannot reveal, yet leaves the impression that they know the who and whys already. The Lubbock sheriff's department is being more typically vague, leaving the door open for speculation and the possibility that it may be one of the girls.

Well, hopefully they can get this girl home to her family, and will contact that family soon.

I was unaware they had that much information - assumed they'd send her bones to Dallas for DNA as they did the male found outside of town. Makes one wonder how they got the information. I read one place online that a phone tip provided the info. I read another place online that it was from an ongoing investigation. Hard to know what's accurate, since the stories tend to vary a bit from news media entity to entity.

I looked on the NCMEC website and didn't see any missing girls from Abilene. I also looked on another "missing" website and ~thought~ I saw two young women missing from Abilene, but from many years ago. (It was late last night when I was looking, so I could be mistaken.) Whomever she is, and wherever she's from, she deserves better than being left in the bottom of a well without a name.

Thankfully, also, the press alerted the Rogers family when the remains were found.

Also, I found another woman listed as missing (from 98?) from Lubbock on one of the websites. I'll have to go back and check to see where I saw that - am wondering if there has been anything (search, etc.) done for her, or if she's just "missing" and forgotten?

The FBI and CBS TV contacted the Rogers family to let them know that Joanna will be profiled on "Without a Trace" on January 19th (tomorrow). They are also making efforts to have Joanna profiled in the CBS Early Show on the 20th, but that is not a done deal yet. The "Without a Trace" website is http://www.cbs.com/primetime/without_a_trace and the show airs at 10:00pm ET/PT and 9:00pm Central Time.

That's a flurry of publicity for Joanna's case, Nan. Did you get to see either one of these?

I did not see the "Without a Trace" episode (nodded off in my chair) but there is a link on the "Morning Show" page that has the video feed, so I saw that one. Kathy did an excellent job - lucid, straight answers, a good interview. The interviewer asked solid questions and was appropriately empathetic. I think it's the best publicity Joanna's had so far. I believe the FBI was behind this. Bless them.

Odd how none of it was mentioned in the local press [online] on Friday. The Maury show they mentioned. Neither of these were. Hopefully they did some on-air promos so that people in the area would watch.

It is marvelous that FINALLY Joanna and Jennifer are getting some media coverage. One wonders had not Summer been murdered or several bodies found if this indeed would be happening? It is obvious that there are many people missing that have been murdered, and it seems that the public is awakening to this reality. Perhaps finally the resources will be allocated to solve many of the missing persons cases and homicides in the Lubbock area, as well as many many others who are missing in Texas and throughout America.

Whether or not this information should be gaged, the police perhaps know better in this regard, after all we do not know what they know. It is well known that the police do not give out information, however, at least the Rogers are being kept in the loop, whether or not Jennifer's family is being kept in the same loop, one can only hope.

I've been busy of late researching what became of Maura Murray in New Hampshire, and the Murray family (Fred Murray, Maura's Father) has had to resort to suing Law Enforcement in order to obtain minimal information in Maura's disappearance.

There is a fine line I suppose in revealing information in regards to an on going police investigation however, where the family is completely kept outside the loop of police investigation needs to be examined, not only do the family have rights to information, the public must be kept informed as well, it is a dicotomy. What seems necessary is a court of public enquiry or common law, where law enforcement can be challenged in the families and an individuals right to be informed about on going police investigations, and as well law enforcements handling of an investigation can be analyzed, so that law enforcements actions and accountability are not above the law.

In Canada we have a court of Public enquiry, where any individual, has the right to seek out information and performance of governments and their agencies. Not only can individuals have access to this court but agencies of the government. This kind of court is essential that corruption and inadequencies of government becopme known and that theses agencies act within the bounds and confinds of the law.

Interesting, too, that the local press has dropped any media coverage like a hot rock.

There's been nothing about the "CBS Morning Show" or "Without a Trace" coverage in any of the online media from there - nothing since just after the "Nancy Grace Show" and the subsequent gag order on the people directly involved in the investigation. My guesses: people didn't like what they heard on the Nancy Grace Show (and not about Joanna); or, the media has been given an unofficial message to drop it by the powers that be there. Probably a bit of both.

Heard a rumor on Summer Baldwin's case, that his lawyer wants off the case because he's having disagreements's with Rodriguez's father. Had expected to see that in the local press there today as well, but I guess the whole subject is now taboo. Also guess daddy doesn't like hearing what the lawyer is telling him. Like forget about trying to prove him innocent, just pray he doesn't get the death penalty. Or something.

According to the Lubbock news, the lawyer wants out because he isn't getting paid.

The Kent county sheriff says that the body in the well is not either Jen or Joanna. They have not released the identity, but say that it is a female from Abilene, Tx.
