from my post at websleuths.com:
Thanks much for the kind words. I published it myself when after shopping it around it became clear that publishers were reluctant to touch cases until a conviction (or were decades old, as in Martha Moxley).
I thought this would be in the same vein as JonBenet's murder, unsolved but with a lot of public interest, and maybe a big name writer or insider in Chandra's case could have got a book published, but apparently not just your run of the mill websleuther like me. :)
My goal was to have it out by May 1, 2004, three years after Chandra disappeared, and when Condit's lawsuit against Dominic Dunne was allowed to go forward about a month before that it only strengthened my resolve to get the book out there, and so I went ahead and self-published it. It's on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other book sites even now.
But after a year and declining interest in Chandra's case, and my continued inability to get the book out there as a widely distributed $6 pocket paperback, I decided to publish on my website for free.
I lost a few hundred dollars publishing it, but I feel it has made a difference, and if even one question in the book causes someone to make an inquiry that moves the case forward it was well worth it.
For that matter, just conversing with all of you about the book was worth it alone. I look forward to a discussion of the book (see Murder on a Horse Trail - Discussion).
