rd, I find what you say interesting. I hope that I can give you the money soon to give a book away, and then you can then chose where it will go.

But I am not certain of the circumstances of your giving the book away. Have you contacted the library? Or are you just sending them the book?

I am saying that because I have had some adverse reactions from libraries in the San Francisco and Daly City area. I wanted to donate some used creation science magazines to the Daly City Library, maybe 9 years ago, a long time ago, and I did take the magazines to the library and hand them to the librarian, but I don't remember ever seeing them in the library.

Likewise I purchased a library subscription for a Creation Science magazine and sent it to the San Francisco Library. I did talk to a librarian there, the librarian in the field that I was sending the magazine subscription to; but I never did see the magazine in the library. I think I did see it in the card catalog. Undesireable magazines can rapidly disappear from some libraries. :)

Librarians who may stand up for allowing pornography to be seen on computers in the library don't necessarily want to be troubled with stuff that they do not believe in like Creation Science magazines. I don't know if pornography actually does occur on library screens, but I have read news articles, or radio news reports, about the subject of pornography in libraries being debated.

Therefore I am just asking you if you have already contacted the Modesto Library. I would like to donate a book myself when the budget takes the proper turn, and I do hope that there are some libraries accepting your book.

cheers,
benn

Here is one newsgroup article that I found on giving books to a library. Maybe I did not search very good.

Woof, all!

Many posters have mentioned giving unwanted books to libraries. I,
too, used to do this, but I don't anymore. My local library, which has
a woefully small collection of fiction books and mysteries in
particular, does not keep the donated books. It holds "Friends of the
Library" sales at least twice a year in which donated books are sold
for between 5 and 50 cents. Now, I have nothing against them selling
off unneeded copies or book club editions, but EVERYTHING donated is
sold for a pittance. Obviously, many of these books they sell off for
a quarter or a dime could be put to much better use if they were added
to the library collection and put into circulation! Lest someone think
I could put my complaints to better use by addressing them to my local
library system, let me assure you, I have. I think they regard me as a
<gasp!> crank (or a pest). Apparently, it has something to do with
that vague catchall "policy". This same library was able to more than
double its size with a new addition; however, they still have no
books. Now they are spaced out more, and have a large play
area/storytime room for the kids. Good thing, since they certainly
don't have any books for them to check out!<<<

I think the Librarians Association, whatever they call it, is in charge. They decide what books are best for us. :)

Good idea, rd and Benn- giving books to the library. If you donate to a library that is near you, you could go there for a speaking engagement and book signing (take some books to sell with you).

The library system in my county has such events.

I was surprised to learn last week that my daughter's landscaper (he cuts her grass) wrote a book about 9-11 and is speaking in a branch library soon. He picked a branch (1 of 18 in our county) that had an auditorium. It free.

I was also surprised to learn that he is aware of the Minuteman project in Arizona and supports it.

I moved this info to another thread. benn, you have done more than enough in getting copies to people who could make a difference, and I thank you.

from a post at websleuths.com:

Connie Chubg's interview with Condit was enough for me. GUILTY!

That was his first public appearance since Chandra had disappeared four months earlier, jsc, and the nation was shocked. They now knew why he had been in hiding. I thought Geraldo and his panel had the best analysis of that interview and I quote their scathing take on it in Murder on a Horse Trail.

By the way, I just donated a copy to the Modesto Library. It should arrive there in about a week. I will be donating to additional libraries as time goes by. Libraries can't put anything given to them up on the shelves, but I hope it meets their quality criteria for them to put it out in the New Arrivals bin!

I am donating the hardcover which is a little more expensive but appropriate for libraries.
